LAKEWOOD, Ohio - ''It is a great start and beginning,'' said coach Joe Scapellitte after the Jamestown Chiefs won a non-league semi-pro football game with Cleveland, 27-14, on a windy Saturday night.
Quarterback Lamont Rim made his debut and was very impressive with 16-of-22 for more than 200 yards passing and two touchdowns passes.
Rim connected with Chris Brown on a 60-yard touchdown in the second quarter and Mark Richardson from 20 yards out in the fourth.
Frank Vicary Jr. was the running standout with 140 yards on 16 carries and he also scored twice. Tony Hammer was true on 3-for-4 extra-point kicks.
On defense, the team had an impressive seven sacks and Jake Wilcynski recorded two interceptions.
Meanwhile, the offensive line was making the holes for Vicary Jr. and giving Rim the time to pass.
The Chiefs held Cleveland to a touchdown and a pair of field goals.
Jamestown opens the regular-season of the Northeast Alliance with Southern Tier Diesel from Olean on June 5 and stays home to play the Buffalo Gladiators on June 12.
Home games start at Strider Field at 5:30 p.m. with admission being $8 for adults and $3 for children.
