William and Norriel Near of Ripley, N.Y., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 28, 2010, and will have a family celebration in their home in May. They are the parents of Robyn (Bob) Albright of Ripley, Michelle DeHaven of Erie, Dawn (Ted) Rickenbrode of Ripley, William Jr. (Aileen) of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Paris (Gill) Graham, of Dalton, Ohio. They also have 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Near and the former Norriel Lanphere were married April 28, 1950, in the Foursquare Church in Ripley, N.Y.
Near is a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class in the Pacific Theater during World War II and also during the Korean conflict. He was employed as a truck driver, a diesel mechanic and drove school bus. Mrs. Near was employed by Meeder's Restaurant.
