ERIE - The Jamestown resident who was in a coma following an altercation with another city man last week died Monday afternoon at the Hamot Medical Center in Erie.

His name still isn't being released, pending notification of the family, but police have reported that the suspected assailant is in custody.

Around 2:30 a.m. on March 9, a Jamestown man in his 20s had just left a downtown bar with his brother when another man who was previously kicked out of the establishment allegedly attacked him. A cab driver in the area saw the victim laying in the street and called 911 to report it.

The young man was initially taken to WCA Hospital by ambulance and later taken to the Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. for more specialized care. The details of the fight and the name of the accused man have not been released by police, who cite the ongoing investigation. An autopsy scheduled for today is expected to reveal whether the young man's demise was caused by the attack, and a grand jury hearing may be forthcoming depending on the medical examiner's conclusions.
