Jamestown police are looking for 34-year-old Luis E. Melendez, a Worcester, Mass., resident, as he allegedly stabbed a city resident around 4:18 a.m. this morning.

Police reported that he arrived at 14 Franklin St. and stabbed a male acquaintance. The victim was taken to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition.

Melendez previously lived in the city, currently lives in Massachusetts, and is believed to still be in the area. People should use caution when approaching him, according to police, as he is a suspect in a serious violent crime.

The JPD is asking anyone who knows the whereabouts of Melendez to call the detectives bureau at 483-7537 or the department's tip line at 483-TIPS. Information can also be submitted online on Facebook, MySpace or via e-mail at jpdfio@yahoo.com. Tips can also be submitted under the public safety section of the city's Web site at www.jamestownny.net. All information can be submitted anonymously and will be treated confidentially.
