Robert H. Lawson

Robert H. Lawson, 85, of 2263 Lennox St., died at 10:35 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 5, 2009), in his home.

He was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Jamestown, the son of Ellword R. and Eva Beaver Lawson.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served as a combat infantryman in the European Theater and achieved the rank of staff sergeant. Prior to retiring in 1986, he had been employed as a metal polisher at Dahlstrom Metallic Door Co.

Mr. Lawson was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Local 2107 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Falconer Rod and Gun Club, and Henry Mosher Post 638 American Legion. He was a life member of John W. Tiffany Post 53 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Robert P. Illig Chapter 47, Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by two sons: Robert S. Lawson of Aransas Pass, Texas, and Gary W. Lawson of South Salem, N.Y.; two daughters: Carol L. Payton of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Debra L. Kipp of Lutz, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula M. Elder Lawson, who died Aug. 4, 1990; and by a brother, Ellword M. Lawson.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Williams of St. Luke's Episcopal Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
