BLASDELL - Three area football players are among the 10 finalists who will be waiting to see if their name is called this afternoon as the 2009 recipient of the Connolly Cup.
The award, presented by the Riverside Athletic Club, is given to the top high school football player in Western New York. B.J. Monacelli of Cassadaga Valley, Chris Secky of Maple Grove and Zack Sopak of Southwestern will join David Fluellen (Lockport), Justin Juda (Lancaster), Andy LaLonde (Grand Island), Joe Licata (Williamsville South), Patrick McMahon (Sweet Home), Matt Rosenhahn (St. Joe's) and Calvin Sluberski (Iroquois) at a lunch at Ilio DePaolo's Restaurant.
Previous winners from the area are Berto Amoroso (1982), David Hinson (1994) and Aaron Leeper (2000), all of Jamestown; and Jehuu Caulcrick (2002), Clymer.
