Bessie L. Cheney, 87, of Kiantone, N.Y., died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, in Cleveland, Ohio.
She was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Frewsburg, N.Y., the daughter of Ervin and Pearl Long.
Bessie served two terms as Kiantone Town Clerk. She was a past PTA president at Frewsburg Central School. She was a member of Kiantone Congregational Church, where she served as Sunday school superintendent and president of the Ladies Aide. At the church, Bessie was known for her cheerful outlook and spur of the moment poetry.
Bessie is survived by her husband, Lewis and four children: Mark (Marti) Cheney of Jacksonville, Fla., Thomas (Sally) Che-ney of Fayetteville, N.Y., Paul (Phyllis) Cheney of Olathe, Kan., and Marilyn (David) Kidder of Berea, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Memorial contributions can be made to Kiantone Congregational Church.
