Luther Edson Whitmore

Luther Edson Whitmore, 70, of 35 E. Chadakoin Ave., Celoron, died at 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, in WCA Hospital.

He was born Jan. 22, 1939, in Red House, N.Y., a son of the late Ralph Whitmore and Nolah Stacey Whitmore Weilacher.

Prior to his retirement in 1982 due to ill health, he was employed by Crescent Tool Company as a factory worker.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ophelia Tanawan; children, Nena and Phillip Whitmore at home, Michael (Kristyne) Whitmore of Ashville, William (Dana) Whitmore of Brunswick, Ga., Timothy (Brenda) Whitmore of Kannapolis, N.C., and Daniel (Brooklyn) Whitmore of Panama; a step-son, Sherwin (Maricel) Espinar; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (William) Campbell of Jamestown; half-sister, Martha Brosius of Jamestown; half-brother, Ralph (Yolanda) Whitmore of Dunkirk; several nieces and nephews; and his first wife, Claire Lander of Brunswick, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1967; his mother in 1995; step-father, Kenneth Weilacher, in 1991; three brothers, Westley, Robert and James Whitmore; and a great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home.

Visitation will not be observed.
