SINCLAIRVILLE - Members of the Sinclairville Senior Citizens gathered for a luncheon recently and honored those members who have birthdays during the month of October.
The Sinclairville Senior Citizens meet once a month for a luncheon and a program at the Sinclairville Firehall dining room. Elaine Palmer-Titus is the president, and Paul Derkovitz is the vice president.
Those having an October birthday gathered for a photograph by a special holiday cake baked by Ranae Kaus of Cassadaga, and provided by secretary John Sipos. Honored for their birthdays were Betty Wielgasz, Susan W. Sipos, Dorothy Mekus, Sandy Derkovitz and Dave Peterson.
Following the recognition, a catered lunch was served by Patti France, Lisa Rangel, and Mona Koterass. A fine lunch was enjoyed by all. Trays of cookies and gift cards were provided by Lori Barrett, director of the Adult Day Services of the Tanglewood Manor in Jamestown.
President Titus opened the meeting with some humorous stories, including a first date during freezing weather, the results of a lab test and a cat scan. Prior to the lunch being served, President Titus gave the blessing asking that all remember those people standing in need. Table decorations were provided by Allene Newton, Martha Harmon, and Marge McIntyre. Mrs. McIntyre provided a mechanical pumpkin which laughed most of the time.
Drawings were conducted by vice president Derkovitz, and the recipients included Gale Sauer, Mrs. Sipos, Joyce Johnson, Joan Imm, Mrs. Wielgasz, Mrs. McIntyre, Mrs. Mekus, Linda Parmenter, Mr. Peterson, Bob Peterson, President Titus, Diane Shaw and Richard Johnson.
The program for the day was provided by vice president Derkovitz who gave some special cooking tips, and by secretary Sipos who spoke on the history of Columbus Day and the original Pledge of Allegiance, written on the 400th anniversary of Columbus discovering America. Sipos also said that the Swedish person Leif Ericson arrived in Greenland some five hundred years prior to Columbus, and that Oct. 9 is known as Leif Ericson day.
Treasurer Claudia Wittenbrook provided the financial report of the group. Mrs. Wielgasz is the sunshine person in charge of sending cards to the members, and said that she is currently compiling a directory of the members.
The next meeting of the group will be on Tuesday, Nov. 10. At that time, a full turkey dinner will be catered for the group. Reservations for this dinner are necessary and can be made by calling President Titus. Table decorations will be provided by Mrs. Derkovitz, Sis Morley and Norvale Martin-Gane. New members are always welcome.
