BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) - A safety official at a demolition derby held at an upstate New York fairground has died from injuries suffered when he was hit by one of the vehicles.

Authorities say 64-year-old David Connors of Livonia died Monday afternoon at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Sheriff's deputies say Connors was working at the demolition derby held at the Genesee County fairgrounds in Batavia Saturday night when he was hit by a van.

Connors was a safety official with the Demo Derby Dogs, a group that puts on demolition shows.
