Chiefs Accepted Into NFA

February 12, 2009
The Post-Journal

Jamestown can now be added to the list of semi-professional football teams.

The Jamestown Chiefs were accepted as the 12th member of the Northeastern Football Alliance recently, bringing the new semi-professional football franchise one step closer to its season opener.

The NFA was established 12 years ago as the New York Amateur Football League, which is centered around playing minor professional football for fun.

The league was built because there was an interest with many young men who enjoyed playing football after high school or college.

The NFA now has three different teams with national championship titles.

The Syracuse Express have won three, Monroe County Sting has won two and the Albany Maulers have one won title. Other league members include the Buffalo Gladiators, Cortland, Grove City, Lyndonville, Southern Tier, Troy, Utica and Watertown.

Voting members of the league unamimously selected the Chiefs to be added to the league. The 2009 season will start in June and play through October.
