Johnson Re-Signs With DLP Pro Cycling Team

Boyd Johnson, formerly of Lakewood, was re-signed by DLP Pro Cycling Team for the 2009 season.
Johnson recently completed a very successful first year on the pro cycling circuit. He currently resides in Greenville, SC. He is a 1997 graduate of Frewsburg Central School and a 1999 graduate of Jamestown Community College.
In his first year racing professionally, Johnson won two races, including the South Carolina State Criterium Championship held during the Low Country Volkswagen Race Weekend in Charleston, S.C. It was Johnson's third State championship victory after winning the New York State Criterium Championship in 2003 and South Carolina's Time Trial Championship in 2006.
Along with his two wins this season, Johnson reached the podium on 10 occasions during the race season. He finished the year with five other top-five places and had an additional 10 top-10 finishes.
Johnson began his cycling career at age 13 by riding in century rides for various charity organizations. He started competing in sanctioned races when he was 15 and soon developed in the area's premiere cyclist, having won numerous races, including seven gold medals at the Empire State Games and four Kinzua Classic races in Warren.
He has raced locally as a member of the Hollyloft Cycling Team.

He has competed in races across the United States and other countries, including Belize, Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Ireland.
DLP Cycling Team will start the new season with several training races in South Carolina and then is expected to accept invitations to compete in the Dominican Republic or Mexico in late February. The team will also compete in this year's Tour De Toona, in Altoona, Pa., in July and the Tour of New York in August.
John is currently working for Total Cyclist in Charlotte, N.C., as a senior associate coach. He is a certified USA Cycling Coach and has turned his experience and expertise into a successful coaching career.
Johnson is also a product engineer for iBike which produces cycling power meters and he has developed their third generation product.
He recently authored Fast Fitness, a training guide for the users of iBike's power meters.
