Arthur S. Holmes, 67, of 4387 Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point, N.Y., went home to be with the Lord, Friday July 18, 2008, after a brief battle with cancer at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born Jan. 30, 1941, in Bayshore, Suffolk County, N.Y., Art was the second child of the late A. Stuart and Julia Holmes.
After graduating with both a bachelor's of art and master's degree in chemical engineering from Penn State University, Art pursued and completed his master's in business administrtion at night at Northeastern University. Penn State named Art the Engineer Alumni of the year in 1993.
Working within the chem-ical and refining industries for over 30 years took him to locations around the globe. Art's entrepreneurial spirit led to developing patented processes and establishing a manufacturing company partnered with his brother which was a childhood dream come true. Art was president and CEO of Chart Industries, which was honored as Best In State in the Plain Dealer 100 in 1997. Throughout his career, Art was admired as a man of integrity.
Devoting his life work to the Lord greatly influenced decisions in the business realm and impacted Art's family, faith, and friend-ships.
Family times were en-joyed on Lake Chautauqua, vacationing world wide and participating in a variety of outdoor activities.
Art's faith was strengthened through regu-lar church attendance, numerous mission trips, and active involvement on boards with a focus on glo-bal evangelism such as; Aglow International, Chris-tian Broadcasting Network and In His Steps Foundation.
Maintaining friendships over time both near and far brought joy in Art's journey. No matter where he and Christy traveled, there were friends with whom to recon-nect and refresh. Colleagues, family members, and friends wholeheartedly affirm Art's life verse, ''... for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of Faith." Acts 11:24
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, the former Christine Horak, whom he married June 10, 1961; two daughters: De-borah H. Dalton of Bay Vil-lage, Ohio and Julie C. Holmes of Bemus Point, N.Y.; three grandchildren" Jed S. Holmes of Bemus Point, Calvin Owen Dalton of Bay Village and Jacque-line C. Dalton of Bay Vil-lage; a sister, Joan H Clay-ton of Venice, Fla.; and a brother, Charles S. Holmes of Southampton, N.Y.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Tues-day in Bemus Point United Methodist Church, New York. A luncheon at the church will be held follow-ing the service.
The family and friends will be received from 4 to7 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St., Jamestown, NY, 14701.
Memorials may be made in Art's honor to the follow-ing organizations; Christian Broadcasting Network, The American Cancer Society or Bemus Point United Metho-dist Church.
