FALCONER — Skylar Carlson tossed a two-hitter and the Falconer Lady Golden Falcons reached the .500 mark on the season as they blanked Allegany-Limestone, 5-0, in the completion of a suspended Division 1 softball game on Thursday.
Carlson struck out six and didn’t issue a walk. She was also the beneficiary of a three-run fourth inning that gave her some breathing room. Sydney Yachetta (double) and Vanessa Kohl had two hits to lead the Lady Golden Falcons’ offensive attack.
Vicki Filbert had both hits for the Lady Gators. Falconer improved to 9-9 overall and 5-5 in the division.
SWCS Notches First Win
Behind Meghan Berlin’s pitching and clutch hitting from the middle of the order. Southwestern (1-9, 3-12) outlasted Gowanda, 3-2 in nine innings for their first league win on the season.
Pitching to contact, Berlin didn’t strike out a batter all game, but only allowed four hits in her nine-inning, complete game that had the Lady Panther hitters, ‘‘pop out all over the place,’’ said Southwestern coach Jen Anderson.
Sarah Johnson and Lizzie Trathen, batting in the four and five spot of the Lady Trojan lineup, accounted for the tying run in the seventh inning and the winning run in the ninth.
Trathen singled, tripled and scored both decisive runs while Johnson had two singles and knocked in her teammate twice.
‘‘It was a great game. A really great game, and a great way to get our first league win,’’ Anderson said.
Gowanda was out in front with a 2-0 lead early on, but Southwestern battled back with a run in the sixth before the dynamic duo of Trathen and Johnson took over.
