MATTYDALE, N.Y. (AP) — A central New York man has been accused of killing his father by setting fire to their home.
Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh tells local media outlets that 56-year-old Robert K. Teachout has been charged with second-degree murder and arson for the death of 83-year-old Robert Teachout.
The father was found dead by firefighters who entered the burning building in the Syracuse suburb Mattydale at about 6 a.m. Friday. Walsh says his son was found in a closed room and is being treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation.
An autopsy will determine the cause of Robert Teachout's death, but Walsh says investigators believe he was killed by the fire.
Information about when the younger man will be in court or if he has a lawyer isn't initially available.
