Police release name of upstate NY woman hit by car

BETHEL, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of the 42-year-old woman who died after being hit by a car while walking along a rural road in the Catskills earlier this week.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office tells the Times Herald-Record of Middletown (http://bit.ly/14pDpQA ) that Rita Sherman of White Lake was struck and killed by a passing car as she was walking along Route 17B last Tuesday night in the town of Bethel.

Police say the driver of the car was traveling east near the intersection of Ballard Road when the vehicle struck Sherman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed against the driver.
