She was a 1929 graduate of the Pennslyvania College for Women, now Chatham College. She served as president of the Chatham College Alumni Association in 1953, and later as director of alumni affairs, where she was involved with fund raising, edited the alumni magazine and was awarded the College's Alumni Award. While living in Jamestown, she was a member of the Fredonia Shakespeare Club, where she served as president and secretary and the Dunkirk-Fredonia Branch of the American Association of University Women, where she served as treasurer for two terms.
She was an avid reader and loved elaborate needlework, which was done for the annual hospital auxiliary bazaar.
She is survived by a son, Robert J. Swisshelm Jr. of Lenox, Mass.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Visitation will not be observed.
