I agree with the comment regarding merging Frewsburg school into Southwestern and Falconer. It makes sense. As far as sports teams goes it is always difficult to make cuts but some kids just aren't good enough to continue playing at the JV and Varsity level. As parents let your child explore the many other activities or clubs available. If schools combined academically as well these kids would have more opportunities and meet some different kids and maybe find more of a social network

Fell bad for the kids who were cut. How can you say numbers weren't there and in the same breath cut kids,I hope the parents hold all parties accountable for such disregards to the students of both schools.

I've seen cases where a football player who was a good bball player was placed on the team without trying out. And a football player who wasn't a good bball player get cut because he couldn't try out because of football. The rules must be the same for everybody. If players can't try out because of another sport it should go to the super or at least AD. You can't leave that up to the coach.

Falconer Board sold out kids so that Frewsburg could have a team which is crap given the tax payers and parents of the Falconer players weren't asked their opinion

How can Falconer not be able to field a hoops team. They are among the biggest districts in the area next to JHS. Does Frewsburg just have a few good players that Falconer wanted on their team? Something just doesn't seem right.

I find it interesting that these schools wouldn't merge their marching bands about 10 years ago, but they will do it for a boys' sport. Also as a Falconer district taxpayer, I am not willing to see my taxes rise to provide transportation so Frewsburg can have a boys basketball program. There is also the issue that people who like to walk to the school to observe a boys' basketball game in Falconer will now have less chances to do so. Finally I can think of issues surrounding the Frewsburg Holiday Basketball Tournament, if it is still being played. Finally, I believe that Jason Becker should not have lost his position as head varsity coach in this whole situation.

What about the transportation issue?? Shame on Falconer's school board and athletics department! Falconer provides transportation to Frewsburg and then makes the athletes fend for themselves to get home. Their reason, "Because it is after school". Many of the students have licenses and are carpooling. I do not think Falconer CSD is prepared liability-wise when a van full of athletes gets in an accident. Every school in Chaut. County that has merged for sports provides transportation to and from the home school... except Falconer. I am very concerned about the safety of these students and do not understand why Falconer is not. I will also see you at the board meeting on the 19th. Jennifer Johnson

Long story short this "merger" is not in the best interest of the Falconer program or more importantly its student athletes. It's apparant that in certain circumstances where numbers are low that mergers are appropriate (CL/MG Football) but in this case it seems that both programs jumped the gun on this decision. This certainly will not be a "rewarding experience" for those who wont be able to participate in the Frewsburg or Falconer program this year because they were cut from this merged team. Merging the Falconer football program with the Frewsburg football program will be a much more productive and rewarding venture.

Yes!! I am saying that if he is going to stand up there and express to everyone that the ONLY EXCUSE FOR MISSING ONE TRYOUT IS DEATH, then that's that!!! He should have said that the only excuse for missing is football!!! Man up! He also stated that if a great athlete has a bad attitude that kid is also cut BUT the one smart mouth that was spoken to at EVERY tryout also made the team and oddly enough his uncle is a coach!!!! Hmmmm

Youwish...as far as football players being picked for the team...so you are saying that those football players who excell at bball too should be punished for their huge accomplishment of their hard work during the football season and not be allowed to be on the bball team this yr because they had to practice for their championship game at the Ralph??? If the tables were turned and falconer was the team going to the Ralph for the championship don't you think those players would want the same opportunity the frewsburg players did? I know that almost all those fb players made all but one try out day, they may have been a little late but they were there. I think the real point here is this is a very unfortunate decision that was made in haste and did not have the best interest of the kids in mind. Would be nice to hear the real truth from these board members in each district instead of the lies they both have been feeding everyone.

Ok first of all this article is not completely accurate. Parents were not given the whole truth at either district's board meeting. Each board stated that they were merging "to help the other school out" and that there would be "no cuts". Well now according to the article frewsburg was the one who needed the help. Sad thing is they never took into consideration all kids who have been playing bball all these yrs they just went by this so called "sign up sheet" who knows how long the sheet was available for the kids to sign up. This whole situation is a huge joke. Frewsburg had at least 8-10 boys who could have made up the varsity team. These so called sign ups were right smack dab in the middle of football and soccer season. And I would love to know how this is saving money since the players are bused to and from practices that are at the opposite school every other day. So the school is paying for the busing and the drivers FOR PRACTICES?!?! This article

I sat through the initial "meeting" where the head coach expressed to all of the players trying out and parents that if you miss ONE tryout for ANY reason you are cutting yourself. He went as far as to say that the ONLY excuse will be if you call and say you died the night before, although he picked a number of kids that made ONE tryout because they had football?!?! See you at the Board meeting on the 19th!!

By the sounds this merger did not benefit the children of the districts that were involved if students were "cut" and 9th graders had to be pushed to modified level to participate. It is sad that these mergers can be passed so quickly without more insight from qualified decision makers and actual numbers. This is one merger that should not have happened it is going to put a hardship on parents, players and lower the moral of the overall program. What a waist of taxpayers money

Frewsberg, should be split into 2 parts and merged into Southwestern and Falconer. Many area schools have combined sports teams, but yet when it comes to combining schools, that subject taboo.

Could have made a freshman team like Jamestown has. At least got a 8-10 game schedule.

Hmmm......These schools are paying more money to have less kids play. That must be the new math in the common core.
