Scallywaggers There's always been two of us under the same name. Why would there be a need for two differing names? And "I'm" a he when "He" gets on...and lastly don't forget you proposed to the "He" not so long ago

Wah! Wah! Wah! Traveling across the country to help a single family member deal with cancer? How about trying to cope in a different country with family members who have it? We didn't need to advertise our gratitude in local newspapers. We went and helped as much as we could - at great expense I might add.

It appears as though many of the posters in this forum have not had the learning experience that a family goes through when a member suffers from cancer. Amy K. Tribble has to be a saint to travel across this country to help her brother. All of the businesses and persons who offered her help during this time in her and her brothers life are also saints. There are several people posting in here who could keep silent and learn much from these saints.

Did I say anything about you complaining about every thing?

You're right. I have no idea of your gender. It's not my business. Nor is my choice of pronoun germane to the topic.

Your second point is ignored. I have no response.

Point three isn't in reference to anything questionable, it's in reference to an incorrect homonym. Since my usage is already found lacking, it's not my place to comment. I thought you'd like to make mention of it.

Lastly, I don't understand the "complain about everything" comment. I join these threads about twice monthly. Were I to complain about everything I'd need to spend an awful lot more time here.

1st, I've stated here before that my spouse and I both post here, so why you'd assume we're a she is beyond me. 2nd, if you don't like what I post - it's a rhetorical post - don't say anything. Just hit the disagree button and do nothing else. 3rd, Jamestownite hasn't said or done anything questionable. Must we complain about every thing?

Jazzy may be smarter than me. We're not in an IQ contest here. We're in a conversation about why she and you find fault with this letter.

And Jazzy, any chance you'll give Jamestownite the same treatment you gave me? You know, in the interest of fairness?

Here's a thought. Unless the topic is syntax, pointing out incorrect usage does nothing to advance your point, and exposes more of yourself than you probably want exposed.

Having said that, the problem with free publicity is foolish pride? Who's pride? The businesses? You have no clue their motivation. You have no idea if they wanted, needed, expected, or knew in advance, that a letter to the editor was in the offing.

Suspect, not expect. Foolish pride is what's wrong with free publicity. If I helped someone during their time of need, I wouldn't want or need for them to publish my name in the paper. A personal debt of gratitude is all that's needed.

What, in God's name, is the problem with free publicity? Thanking a business privately is fine, and I expect it probably happened, but why would anyone begrudge a business some free pub?

Why inappropriate? Because you think it is? Thank each business individually...goes a long way...this is nothing more than free publicity.

What a lousy comment. A person takes the time to publicly thank businesses that helped during a family crises, and this is the response they get?

Totally inappropriate.

So which is it: Stressful or not? Another wishy washy letter...too bad they don't know how bad off Jamestown really is. Bad when you have to sell your home to buy one in another locale much cheaper and get a better paying job. Neighbors are great, we're having a neighborhood watch party to morrow night.
