Leave Mel alone.. his latent homosexuality is not his fault!

Randall, why do you care? What is the problem with allowing union regardless of gender? If you are a follower of Mel and his merry band of tea drinkers, why must you wrap religion around freedom?

Randall, the Founders did not worry about these things as there was no reason to recognize marriage. It was the domain of the Church. It was not until tax, law and religion in the definition of marriage were combined that it became an issue. Next time you go to Washington, stop in and read the history you were never taught which shows the lives of gays in the 1700s.

Last, keep your religion out of my government and assume the Founders cared because there is no evidence they did.

So is it the act itself or the legal union that bothers you so much? I'm a straight man, and I find homosexuality bewildering at best, but I see no reason why people should not be allowed to live the life they choose. And to bring religion into the argument... well... that's a whole different argument. "Rebellion against God"? More like a rebellion against ignorance and superstition.

I commend Mr. Braley for a well-thought letter. According to HenryH, many of us share a common lack of historical knowledge. Not knowing what history HenryH was taught, I do know that mine did differ from what is taught in textbooks these days. For example, Paul Revere was a "terrorist" but the terrorists of today are "freedom fighters". To the point, my friendships include gays and this has no bearing on our friendships. What bothers me is the "in your face" intimidation of too many in the public spotlight. From the physical abuse of the elderly who supported California's Prop 8 to the pushing of gay lifestyles on kids as young as kindergartners. I resent the intolerance of those demanding tolerance. I resent gays' lawsuits against bakers who don't want to do "gay" wedding cakes or photographers who don't want to do gay weddings when it's not hard to find others willing to perform those services. I have no patience for those who label anyone w

Cont.) I have no patience for those who label anyone who disagrees with their views as "haters". It would be just as logical to label all gays as "heterophobic". That would not be fair either.

Not being homosexual, or coveting my neighbor's partner or using prostitutes has nothing to do with my religious beliefs. I have no problem with same sex relationships as they do not affect mine. I cannot understand people's concerns and hatreds for something that does not involve them directly. If you do not agree with it, then do not be it.

Feddie, you are correct, for once, the Revolution was won by guerilla tactics including terrorism. You'd be interested in learning more about the Royalists who were Americans which supported the Monarch. After the Revolution, they were killed or driven to all parts of the Kingdom.

In regards to the intimidation you speak of and the influence of sexuality on children, all you need to do is watch television to see everything has been sexualized. However, I do not see a lot of gay themes and you certainly do not turn someone gay. Your opinion is valid but way off base from reality.

Is it any wonder ( if it is really true) that the LBGT community have higher rates of substance abuse? Could it be because of the constant persecution and stress caused by people like Mel and his gang? imagine being dis-owned by your family, verbally and physically assaulted, denied jobs and housing, living in daily fear because of your sexual orientation? It just might cause someone to self-medicate.

Good point gemini. It must take a great deal of strength to be a healthy and open gay person in this world.

Henry, if you look back into history government got involved in licensing marriage when it did not like a white man marry a black woman. Though it went totally against the Bible, governmmet did not care and started to license marriage to getting in on divorce to now undoing the definition of the institution.

This letter is a load of steaming crap! "Pathology"? And Mel, are you saying interracial marriage is anti-Biblical and the government got involved anyway? Your lack of rational thought, "apologetics" notwithstanding, takes my breath away.

Snowy, you are correct that it came out of the south where it sought to control interracial marriage. However, it was then quickly adopted as a way to control people and it was integrated into the tax code.

My objection is that you cannot have it both ways. You cannot say marriage is tied to religion as our government exists outside of religion. Government should have no power in defining what is an acceptable union other than to say what legal benefits exist. Looking your Tea drinking platform, you want your cake and eat it too. You must remove religion from government. Government should get out of the marriage business and restrict its intervention in dealing with property in dispute or transference.

Great letter Randall, I suppose the liberal "mind" will gladly follow suite (along with their redef. of marriage; any mate will do) by saying; "any gun will do we need no bans" or any drug is OK too; why only allow the drugs of BOOZE, TOBACCO, anti-depressants, etc.... why not allow crack, horse, smack, ***, etc. ad-infinitum ad-nausea. Let us be liberal in this area as well. Let's do some more redefining.

If you want to see who's leading the way down the slippery slope to destruction in this country, then all you need to do is find out who owns the mass media outlets such as TV broadcasters, newspaper and magazine publishers, radio broadcasters, etc. These are where public opinion is molded and formed. I can almost guarantee that the majority of them are not liberals. They are rich right wing conservatives that are getting rich off the crap that they put out for public consumption while trying to get the public to believe that said crap id good, normal, and even artistic. The liberal/conservative issue is a distraction, just as the racial issue is, used to keep everyone's attention anywhere except upon the class warfare being forced upon us by right wing conservatives that make up the 1%.

HenryH, thanks for your view on history. As usual, your conceit is somewhat misplaced. Seeing as how only about 1 out of 3 colonists supported the revolution, I fail to see how all loyal to the crown were "driven to the four corners of the continent". Undoubtedly, those who openly prospered by their relationships to the British were subjected to scorn and in some few instances, worse. And you conclude that I have a valid opinion but it is "way off base from reality". If it's unrealistic, how can it be valid?

DanFal, you are joking, aren't you? You honestly believe the mainstream media (TV networks and large city newspapers) are owned by conservatives? The liberals have a virtual monopoly on the news. Why do you think Obama attacked only Fox News? It was the only major news organization not in the bag for Obama. Why do you think liberals were recently going crazy over the possible sale of the L.A. Times to conservatives? Why do you think the Washington Post was sold to liberal Jeff Bezos with the proviso that all of the content would remain under control of the previous money-losing bunch. Their subscriber base has greatly shrunk due to the liberal propaganda spewed and "deep-pockets" Bezos can keep it going as he only had to spend about 1% of his net worth to buy it. Liberals are fearful of losing their monopoly. In the same manner, why do you think "the left" so rabidly attacks black conservatives? They know that black conservatives have a better message.

Striking" promiscuity exists among homosexuals (2006 UCLA study); Dutch research (2003) found even gay men with a steady partner averaged 8 sexual partners per year. Dissolution rates of homosexual and lesbian couples are 3-4 times that of married heterosexuals.

The part about lesbian couples are not true. Lesbian couples have less cases of infidelity than straight couples. The problem with promiscuity is men not gays. And anytime you do a survey or a study that involves promiscuity and infidelity the numbers are going to be flawed. People lie about things they do that they feel are immoral. 50% of marriages end in divorce, why not let gays join that joy ride.
