Not recycling is also expensive. I shutter to think what would have happened if it didn't come along. The landfill in Ellery would have been closed a long time ago.

I agree with Danurse, never quite saw the reason why I can't throw every thing in one container, especially for a city trying to revitalize itself. Clutter, clutter and more clutter. Blanchard, I'd almost agree with you, but here's the thing: If I live in an apartment complex with 9 other people, and half the people recycle and half don't - and we don't know who does what, how are you going to execute the fine? Fine everyone? We would encourage it even more if every thing was comingled together. By the way, tin goes for 11 cents a pound, and aluminum is 48 cents a pound the last time I took a few pounds in so we know there's money to be made.

Fining those who do not recycle would be expensive. The billing and collecting plus the staff to do it probably would not be cost effective. Also if they do not want to help the environment by recycling, they probably would not pay the fine either.

Lets start by finding the people that don't recycle and fine them like half my neighbors.

I think recycling is wonderful for the city, but I wonder why all recyclables can't be place in a single receptacle and taken all together. The town of Kiantone refuse station accepts all recyclables together. It's call "zero sort recycling". It is hauled away and a big machine sorts the different recycled items. You can look it up on google and find it. I think you would have many more participants in recycling if it people thought it would be easier! And the investment in machinery by the city would make it so they didn't have to pay someone else to do it!
