For the record, out of fairness, I tried the authors method today at brigiottas. Out of 6 ears, one worm and one that looked like a corn genetic freak. Therefore folks, take a peak and leave the corn gambling up to the other people!

I always peek because I prefer smaller kernels on my corn. I don't think it's a big deal, even if I peeked and put it back, you are still able to look At the tassels and feel it as you wish. And like Brent said, with peeking, I have seen a few worms at the Lakewood farmers market and at wegmans. I will stick to my tried and true methods.

Out of a doz ears of corn, I'm finding 2 to 3 with worms and 1 or 2 under ripe. With the high cost of corn, I'm still going to peek.
