For what it's worth, Snellings, Gerace and yes, even the unions should realize they will attain a certain level of status if they get this thing accomplished.

They will have achieved something unheard of in NYS, and surely other departments will be knocking on our door -- wanting to know how it's done.

First of it's kind in NYS for a reason! Sheriff just wants NYS to recognize Sheriff as "real" police in NYS. Right now sheriff in NYS does not get same pay/union/pension as real Police departments. If you think this is about public safety and not Gerace expanding his kingdom and a NYS Sheriff association agenda, and expansion of sheriff budgets, you are being fleeced. It is about jail guards becoming recognized as real police and turning county into a prison by inforcing neoprohibitionist laws that discurage visitors and tourisim and shut down bars and resturants and businesses in the name of safety. Watch the budgets grow!
