"they got arrested for something that is legal in 47 other states in the US"

False. Fireworks laws vary significantly but at least 8 would have cited/arrested these people. I would venture to guess many other states have restrictions on size, type, etc.

By PA citizens, they aren't legal to possess.

"but in other states like PA where fireworks are legal, is there really a great statistical amount of people/property being injured by fireworks?"

Fireworks aren't legal in PA. They are legal to sell, not to possess.

I often wonder, why is it that fireworks are illegal in our great state? I agree that there are plenty of people who'd blow their own hands off if given the opportunity, but in other states like PA where fireworks are legal, is there really a great statistical amount of people/property being injured by fireworks? Yeah it can be irritating in a residential area... but lots of things are irritating, doesn't mean they should be illegal. Seems to me a rather silly law. Not as silly as these guys driving around with fireworks stacked above their windows... but silly none the less.

Have to agree about the non enforcement of shooting off fireworks ... We have had debris land near our roof due to neighbors who are not trained but think it wise to shoot off enormous amts of fireworks. One of these years our house will catch fire from it. It is also disruptive for pets who get terrified by the noise. Around the lake they shoot off fireworks illegally for days and days...if it is illegal then enforce it please! I see no benefit to permitting untrained people to fire explosives in residential areas. Even highly trained people get serious injuries during firework shows. The benefit of being able to fire them off in your backyard at any time of day or night does not exceed the burden it puts on the general public and neighbors' safety. If you want to see fireworks there are plenty of displays to see around the county.

Doesn’t it seem kind of stupid to have illegal fireworks or illegal cigarettes piled up so high that they are visible through the windows?

The state will eventually legalize fireworks as they are desperate for sales tax revenue.

Has anyone noticed that while the police do a good job on things like this and kids with firecrackers in the city.....nobody on the lake blasting off high power rockets and firecrackers ever gets busted. The Sheriffs department's Marine division could pay for it's gas budget for the season on just the fourth alone.

In Lakewood the fourth of July fireworks goes on for at least a week. The summer people are on vacation and do not care if the locals have to work and can't get to sleep because of the explosions. Still to the best of my knowledge.....the worst that happens is a warning. I have never heard of anyone, on the lake, being busted or even fined. I can live with the illegal fireworks on the fourth but it gets real old when you are trying to sleep on the 5th, 6th, 7th etc.
