Either Learn English or do us all a favor and move to Miami, Most of your relatives live there already anyhow

This is exactly the thing that is holding the Hispanic community back in life. Time to move on and learn to adapt to surroundings and jump into the melting pot. They will do just fine without a navigator. My Grandmother never had a navigator, didn't speak a word of English, never had a welfare or social program to help her as a widow with 5 children and she did just fine!! She was a great American!

I'm curious as to the number of Latinos in Jamestown, but it seems there is enough that I'd expect to see some part of their cultural contribution, such as restaurants, bands, festivals, etc., but I've not seen a single thing... it is especially curious given the popularity of these things in the US today. It helps to confirm to me that there is too much coddling or discouragement towards hard work and/or we are attracting just those who have no interest in self-help, working hard, learning, improving, building, creating.

Navigate yourself to a job. It is what the Italians and Swedes did.

They can't move to Miami, Florida does drug testing now for welfare. That should be the next law passed in New York State (every state). Why should us working Americans have to pay for this stuff i'll never understand.

On Flag Day, I saw Puerto Rican Flags hanging on the front of houses, this is America, bend alittle and maybe you'll be welcomed.

Not all Hispanics are the same. I've spent a lot of time in South Florida. The Hispanics there are not just from Puerto Rico. There are immigrants from Cuba, Dominican Republic, Central America, and South America. Many of those individuals are too proud to accept handouts. They work hard, struggle to learn the language, and contribute to society. Unfortunately many of the Hispanics in Jamestown are the ones who don't want to integrate into our society and have settled here due to the generous welfare system in our area.

Maybe they can band together and hire a navigator instead of running around with their hand out. This area has already done more for Latinos than any group in the past 100 years.

All this talk about uniting...what's wrong with a Lation volunteer navigator service? Unite and attend English classes. This whole thing is just like the rest of the cournty..****anize and push and you will win. Especially when the government is on your side. Right and wrong don't matter. It's become the American way. "Fundamentally change America".

What are those flags they are carrying? Can they be stepped on and burned?

How were all of these people able to get off of work to protest? They must have caring bosses!

It is sad how so many paint with a broad brush. I do not know Samantha but it seems like she is doing what so many are advocating for - she is trying to teach Latinos English and working with them to find employment. I am a bit too young to know how the Italians and Swedish immigrants learned English but do know my great grandparents struggled with their English. Steretyping runs rampant in these comments which speaks volumes.

If she's that passionate, let her do it for nothing.

Wow, Jamestown is full of racist people. Stereotypes galore. I know Sam and she's done more for people in this area than many of you complaining.

I'm sad to see so many negative comments. I agree that there are many looking for hand outs but it is not only Hispanic people. People are people and there are lazy people in all races.I would like to point out that Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States and they are citizens of our country. They have the same rights as anyone. There are programs for a variety of peoples needs this happens to be a need specific to Hispanics. There is a program specific to the needs of nursing mothers and one for divorced and widowed women. I don't see anyone complaining about them. If we do not raise awareness and find help for the people who are willing to use it for the right purposes then we fail as members of this community. Our City will be filled with people looking for hand out because they will know they can come here and make excuses for why they didn't get anything accomplished. I know several people who have worked with JNP programs and were able to learn English and become employe

Sam does an outstanding job and is committed and caring. the problem here is WHITE people, idiot White people, White people that believe in MERICA not The United States of America just Merica. I am amazed when citizens gather , and they are citizens, because they are part of the United States of America exercise there right to protest, idiots begin blogging. Well bubbajr-it's not the PR flag I'm familiar with. And why are you flying it and bragging about being Anericans? What the heck is a "Merica"? Your English suc k s. If you ever get us white people down, who will take care of your scurvy arse? You couldn't even take care of a small island, and you think you can run this country? Let me weren't even born in PR?

What's the red white and blue banner with stripes and a star in a triangle? Your racist battle flag? I looked AGAIN, and don't see that flag listed under PR. Maybe you don't know? Bayamon ball team?

I dated a school teacher in San Juan. I told her if they pulled the plug on the jukebox, shut off Johhny Walker Black Label, and J&B scotch, the island would be run by Cubans in a week. she disagreed. She said "three days".

I doubt bubba is from PR. He doesn't know 75% or PR calls themselves white. I still think that flag is made up for lost Mestizos looking for a country to give them something.
