June 9, 2013

Four years ago, The Post-Journal wrote about a man named Ruben Santos. Santos was a Puerto Rican native who moved to America for a fresh start....

The right thing to do Is immerse them in English, not require the rest of us to learn Spanish. Did Puerto Rico stop requiring English studies in school? I think you've played.

Absolutely right 50s4ever! If I relocated to another country with another language, it would be my responsibility for all those things, not someone else's.

Absolutely agree 50's ,my family is from Italy and if we didn't learn English we didn't eat , no programs for us or any other immigrant except Latino's. Are they so ignorant they can't learn English and simulate like everyone else had.

I lived in Puerto Rico. They teach English at every level of education. Any PR who says he can't read it, is playing you. Thank you Bill Clinton for spending billions of taxpayers money to make it easier to get Spanish speaking democrats.

I was thinking the same thing. If they need translation help then it should be mandatory they receive English lessons. 50s4ever, your comment on Clinton shows us your idiocy comment of the day.

They need to learn English and they print those forms in Spanish, so stop whining. i'm surprised this person you speak of wasn't whisked to the front of the welfare line, but i've seen much reverse discrimination in recent years.

I just bought Santos a Lincoln Navigator with those reverse spinning wheels. Now that he is styling the problem has been solved.

As usual Hassan, you're the idiot. Bill Clonton by executive order as a lame duck in Aug tied federal funding to bilingualism in this country. If we didn't provide fofr non-English speakers, fed funding would be halted. Bingo....Norteamerica. I could give you the order number and date but you really should look it up. Sorry poverty...no such thing as reverse discrimination. Only discrimination.

Poor Ruben Santos, maybe he should have learned English BEFORE leaving Puerto Rico.

Jamestown fails Hispanics? What about the country they came here from? What's next? Salamanca apologizing to them for not providing services in their native language?

Puerto Rico has a special status from the U.S. government. People from there can come here easily and are entitled to lots of services and support. That's federal law, not New York's.

"my family is from Italy and if we didn't learn English we didn't eat.."

That's total bull. Italians were one of the more insular ethnicities in this country. If you didn't speak English, you went down to the Italian market half a block away. The whole neighborhood was Italians if one was Italian.

50s, you'd be the first on my list to get an English course. You and Scallywag; if you're not the same person anyways.

The difference is HIspanica don't intend to go to the nearest barrio cantina. They want Spanish everywhere in the country, changing the culture to suit their wants. Like Obama wants. Browner.

They were still printing Swedish newspapers, bulletins, and Bibles into the 20th century.

Get over yourselves. I can't even read ru4real's post.

Oh, 50s, just say it...if they were white, no one would be complaining. This is more about racism than English.

The racist is in the White House. But, it's natural to prefer your own kind. Unless you're unnaturally stupid. So marry someone of another race, language, and culture and let me know how that works out. BTW...you're an idiot.

Since you brought it up...I see now Rice is't African American, but Jamaican American. They forget that doesn't make a "first". Powell was also. They do try hard, though.

REALLY ironyoozesfromyouryap??? I bet they print those things in other languages too - please tell us more. The one difference is about Swedish etc. is I DON'T have look for English when I'm reading instructions or reading a label. I also DON'T HAVE TO PRESS 1 FOR MY OWN LANGUAGE. Learn the language or leave - very simple.

Monkey you don't even know what a racist is. I have no use for anyone who won't defend his own culture. They can't be trusted. That's almost as basic as gender.
