Smoking Around Kids Should Be Criminal

May 18, 2013

To The Reader’s Forum: With so many smoke free zones in this country, I think there should be more laws on the books regarding this, especially around kids....

I don't smoke and don't like the smell of cigarettes or cigars. If someone is smoking around me , I move elsewhere. It is sad but I don't friend someone that smokes on a social basis. Meaning I can work with you but not socialize with smokers. Because I cannot stand the odor. So that has been my way of dealing with it. If I walk into a privately own business and realize they smoke in there I leave. I don't do business there. It's my way of dealing with it. There are some florists in our area that allow smoking in their business. They can keep their flowers. I go elsewhere.

phd-I once saw a private refuse to shoot at silloutette targets on the range because they were black. They didn't discharge him right then, but I hope it caught up later. What ignorant brainwashing. Both in his case and the superiors who didn't drum him out.

People with no education, or wrongly educated have become the word police. Go figure. I say we hit the button on "bigot". I hate the loose slinging of that word.

50s, I love Roger Whitaker's music. Have you ever heard his, "A Day In the Life of a Lucky Man"? It's a rare gem. Quite a talented whistler, too. Let me know if you want to borrow the CD.

Know what I find heartbreaking? A mother out playing with her kids, but she is on her cell phone, ignoring the youngsters.

What if your from the islands like Jamaica and have really dark skin according to today's form of thinking you would be considered African American. Now that's crazy stuff actually they claim all of us originated in Africa. I'm African American I'm now a minority. Minority owned small business here I come. I'm now eligible for the best gov contracts. Yippeeee.

Phd-I don't think that's the same word as the Spanish one. With an "A" it's culturally exclusive. Anything else is racist. So they say.

"Nope Spanish colors are offensive", but NOT if incorporated into RAP lyrics. Then they're considered ART and FREE EXPRESSION. Go figure...

While I think smoking around children is detestable and very inconsiderate I also do not think it could realistically be criminalized. Do I think it’s nearly ‘abuse’? Yes. Do I think people should be charged as criminals for it? In my heart yes, but in my head no. Do we really need more legislation in this state? Where do you draw the line? Where does it end when outlawing things that other people find objectionable? That’s a slippery slope. I agree that entering an establishment by walking through a cloud of smoke or past a stinking ash tray is quite unpleasant. But it is what it is. What really gets me however? Seeing someone pushing a stroller while smoking a cigarette. Breaks my heart every time.

I think before we worry about "smoking around kids" we need to worry about parenting our kids. Weather is getting nice and I see kids out past 1:00am running the streets.

Yeah wag. Remember MLK thought ***** was a race to which he belonged. I get real sick of today's word police. What if you're from Brazil, your ancestry was from a slave nation, and of course ou speak Portugese. Do they list you as HIspanic/Latino on forms?

First,

Are you pro-life or pro-abortion?

If your pro-aborting then your opinion doesn't matter cause you'd kill the kid before it was born anyway.

Second, if you ban smokes you should also ban Pop and Chips and TV and lead paint (oh you already did) and mercury (oh but you inject that into your kids with immunizations and you have it in your nice new florescent bulbs) and you'd ban all cars cause breathing in gas is bad and no camping cause them fires have smoke to and a wood stove inside cause that's smoke and you'd need filters and then you'd close the fast food chains and then you'd get rid of the bible cause that's bad for kids to learn about fake stories or how to live in community and you'd take the rich's money and give it to the poor cause they are poor and then you'd say you can not have guns in the house cause something might happen and then you'd say you can only have 4 bullets cause to many is bad for your kids and then you'd say you need to have your kid face back

cig ads were banned from tv. Most movies show smoking is unacceptable. But the language police revel in the bomb as sophisticated free speech. Bumper stickers and t shirts even. However, they did make niggardly and illegal alien unforgiveable.

MADD I hate to correct you but I find it's usually there children there yelling the f bomb to. Or the so called dads with hats on at a 45 degree angle and a face that looks like they fell in a tackle box. Most of them are like 5 foot one and a quarter. Ya know there is just not enough hours in a day to discribe this lazy lazy generation. Good thing is any kid in this generation with any motivation at all the world is there's for the taking. Zero competition

You hit the nail on the head scally, no self respect! Why is it ok to be toothless and greasy in Walmart while wearing stained sponge bob pajama pants and a taz t shirt with holes in it? Who in their life told them that it is ok to go out in public looking like that? I know Walmart is not a black tie affair but come on. On top of that, they are yelling the f word across the store to a "spouse" because they got the wrong flavor of hot pockets. Then they wonder why they are unemployable........actually they don't wonder that...they just enjoy their govt assistance for doing nothing.
