They are thoroughly thanked via their salaries, pensions, insurance, etc.

I would never thank someone specifically because their job is federal... why? Somehow, some seem to think of these as honored or volunteer positions rather than jobs like the rest of us have. Military and 1st responders deserve special honor and thanks, but simply working for gov., heck no.

No one should get a thank you for doing their job. Sure it makes you all warm and cozy but that is what you get paid to do. As said before, your thanks is a salary, benefits, pensions, and as a federal employee, an opportunity to retire early while the rest of us work into our 60's

So apparently being a government employee is something that should be honored and priviledged and looked upon as if you are sacrificing a part of yourself for the betterment of the rest of us poor, dumb, unpriviledged, private citizens who would be completely lost if it weren't for you.

Look at all the crybabies on here. You make it sound like something dishonorable to be a federal worker. Maybe when we go fully socialist we'll all be paid the same no matter what we do (or don't do). Have a nice day comrades.

Tough crowd. Being hated so much, they need good retirement bennies, near impossible firings, great medical, and salary beyond average. After all, they sacrifice their humanity to serve the ridiculous policies and regulations. That's worth something.

I'm sure most people would take a federal job given the opportunity. After all, you get a huge salary, numerous benefits including a great healthcare package, long vacations, new car every year, a getaway house in Europe, and the list goes on and on. Best of all, you don't even have to work for it! It's just handed to you. And all those who chose other fields endeavor have to work 60-70 years just so a federal worker can have a life of luxury. It must be so, everyone here says its true. But then again, most people chose their lifetime career so maybe it is just sour grapes.

Wow! For once I am in 100% agreement with BudZilla. However, for many others, our Federal government workforce is the smallest now as it has been in 60 years as a percentage of population. I do agree with some that the benefits are generally better but not significantly so. That era will quickly pass as future leaders claw back compensation promised by past leaders. It will happen.

700 anchors around the collective neck of the taxpayer. If they were private sector instead of public employees, there would probably only be 350 - 400 of them.

All Government agencies suffer from the same problem, everytime there is a scare of a position being cut in management they abuse there authority and hire a "buffer' employee. This employee's sole purpose is to be the sacrificial lamb if they actually cut a position. This leaves the number of managers the same and most of the time the threat of job cuts just passes and we add another manager to the roles. Of course this manager is not really needed and serves no purpose. This is how the government local and federal have become so bloaded and top heavy . The person in charge of the agency is usually an appointee and does not have the guts to cut unneeded management positions. They are usually filled with friends and lazy relatives. Perpetual Insanity!!!!!!!!
