EDK, actually, I did read it the WHOLE article. A "career politician" is someone who makes a "career" out of politics (hence the term "career politician")- like the Cornells for instance. Not a slam, just an example. They are proud to say they want to be politicians - in fact, they both went to school for political science I believe. A part-time legislator or town councilman isn't a "career politician" unless of course, that's the only job they ever held.

Anyone who thinks Vince Horrigan will shake up county government is an infantile Slipknot fan or a senile senior citizen. He is the the exact type of establishment candidate that the Republican party can rely on because his name recognition alone will score votes.

Vince Horrigan has hardly stepped to the plate before the naysayers and "nothing better to offer" opinionated s spew their biases. Lighten up and at least give the guy a chance to speak!

Taxpayer, you just didn't read the WHOLE article. What part of serving on both local and county governments is NOT considered a career politician. You tell me.

He's a career politician? What did I miss? I thought he retired as a colonel from the Air Force and then ran the Red Cross. So, if not him, who? Successfull business people are making over $100k and aren't going ot take a pay cut - but we don't want business people anyway, right? Politicians we don't want (so we say). Now apparently a retired Air Force officer and former large organization director isn't good enough. So, exactly what should we look for? Other than the real career politicians who gladly boast they want to be a politican, those who run for political office are really doing a thankless job. They get insulted in the blogs, half the people hate them for no reason other than their political affiliation, and when it comes down to it, the voters don't treat the campaign like a job interview. Rorickson you're right, it's a popularity contest, but whose fault is that? Look at the posts.

Nothing changes when Horrigan gets in. Sure, he is a good man and has had exemplary careers in the service and the red cross, however it will be business as usual with him at the helm of the county. The lake will still be a mess in 40 years and all other local problems shall remain. We need somebody that will breathe fire and ice, but we could only attract someone like that if the area was pristine. Catch 22, around and around we go.

Mr. Horrigan has excellent leadership skills. He had exemplary military service and rose to the rank of Colonel in the Air Force, served as the Executive Director of the local Red Cross, was the former President of Jamestown Rotary, and served as a Village Trustee and County Legislator. He is highly respected by all those who know him, and would do an excellent job for our community.

Seriously? If Horrigan had this "vision" for what's best for Chautauqua county, why hasn't he said/ did anything as a county legislator? Any county legislator who is going to be announce thier candidency for county executive is part of the PROBLEM of what's wrong and not part of a SOLUTION, especially if they are career politicians! And of course when they reach 20 years of being a career politician, everyone is their friend when they get their retirement check for being a public servent.
