City Should Take What Lakewood Didn’t Want

April 24, 2013

An adult novelty store won’t be coming to Lakewood after all. Whatever one’s thoughts about adult-oriented stores, Jill Laemmerhirt’s proposal was tastefu....

I've always wondered what kind of person wants to be seen in this kind of store? Almost no one does. That is why the internet sales of these types of products do so well.Totally private and the best option. The truth is no mater how "sensitive" the store is it will reduce proprty value and no one would want to be it's neighbor. Just the way it is and really not a big deal.

I am so glad I do not pay the PJ any money to read their crap. Because if I did I would be cancelling because of this article promoting this type of store!

Billy / Old Lady, let me suggest you visit spencers or check out the adam and eve website.

What is the difference between and nice and clean adult store or the good ole*******or ****** commercials that our children have been fed for many years?

Nothing like sitting around the super bowl game with family (young and old) and being introduced to the first ****** commercial using a good Elvis song.

Or what about Grandma and Grandpa sitting nak ed in separate tubs toasting each other?

My favorite is the ad's along the thruway.

As I'm reading the comments, many believe that perversion is okay as long as it increases tax payments and adds diversity to the area. God help us all.

Downtown this would be a joke. Kids going home from school would walk buy and laugh. People would never go inside. Late at night there would be a few men hovering around it .

I wonder how many people against homosexuality are against this?

Should be the same amount.

I'm a married mom of two, and I have nothing against an adult shop coming in. My only question is could it actually be successful?? I know I don't pay for **** anymore, and I'm pretty sure most people don't have to with the internet being discrete, easy and free!

I love how it's being questioned that the Post-Journal, a paper that considers the fact that a high school senior is god at math to be front page material, finds this to be worthy of editorial. The irony being that you commenting that it's not worthy of editorial is, in fact, editorial comment in essence, just not being made by an officially established "editor."

Pack of prudes. I am sick of ordering my supplies online. I like to see things before I buy them.

I am appalled. How dare someone consider giving local adult couples the option to spice up their relationships. Sex is not supposed to be fun. It's not supposed to be pleasurable. It's supposed to be short, quick and to the point. What gives people the right to try and make it anything more than that? Disgusting.

Here you folks go again. An opportunity comes knocking, but because it doesn't fit in your mind, we should shun it.

I'm not saying this because I will be the first one in the door, but if lakewood has a problem with this business, than We all should be demanding that Lakewood shutdown spencers.

Business is Business and anytime we can bring business to town, we should accept. As long as there are customers, sales tax can exist.

I was told that one of our local communities would not offer land / support any of the fast food establishments. Why? Because it would affect their local restuarants.

This is poor reasoning. As a economic development idea the store doesn't measure up because no other businesses would want to move in next door or even on the same block. It is simple to see. If you have the whole area to chose from, would you want to put your niche business next door or down the street from a sex shop no matter how "tasteful" it is? No way, man. That is why sex shops are kept out of prime business spots in big cities. They ruin economic development, not help it.

You know, image, especially for a community is very important. It has a direct impact on how people feel about themselves and the town they live in. There are many folks trying very hard to improve this area's image and quite frankly, I wonder if the PJ is really on board with the idea. Their building's bleak, riot-renaissance facade has not been updated in 40 years, Surely, they could put a little money into improving the building's appearance and their business image. The picture of downtown displayed on their website has not been changed in years. It centers on the decaying Arcade building. There are many other downtown scenes that could be shown that are much more positive.

That's it, I done with the P-J. Will be cancelling my subscription. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures in Jamestown. I'm not that desperate.

With all of the current events taking place lately, this is what the editor decided to write about? I have nothing aginst an adult novelty shop that is located in the right place and operated the right way, but seriously, this is what you want our business development manager to pursue?

Has anyone been in spencers in the mall lately? Where is the outrage over that? My 2 year old daughter was attracted to the flashing lights. only to be face to face with very inappropriate things...pulled a u-turn right away...no one ever cards there.

Maybe hiting rock bottom with a red light distict is what is needed. Look what it did for Times Square in NYC.
