I have been told that Fred Larson was also on this committee and will run for legislature as the Democrat from Lori Cornell's District. Suddenly it has become very profitable to run for these positions. I can see a small pay raise for someone who has served the people for 20 years, but there is a learning curve here for the candidates of both parties. I wouldn't talk about a raise until after one term in office. As I have stated before I feel these positions are public service not careers.

Time for a salary sequester, excluding of course the small chance that government actually serves its public constituency.

Wages for public officials have been frozen in Chautauqua County since 2002 and before.

With the prior, current, and ongoing poor condition of NYS and Local government finances and fiscal health; NYS and especially upstate high unemployment and struggling private sector (who primarily pays for the public sector); And all such things related, The recommendations should be that all public salaries be froze and remain stagnant like everything else is.

One other note with respect to this committee is the lack of wisdom in making Stephen Keefe, village of Fredonia mayor the Chair. What were you thinking? are you not paying attention? is this really the right person? Perhaps you folks better read the article ["Fredonia must control spending" - Out of 15 villages, Fredonia has 22 of the top highest 25 paid employees...]

We're going to keep this short and simple by simply saying No, he's not the right guy to lead this effort, and like Fredonia, the County and every other municipality should freeze wages for every single position, whether elected positions or not.

The salaries of elected officials are peanuts compared to the cost of welfare/social services. Salaries are not the problem.
