March 31, 2013

To The Reader’s Forum: Tiger Woods, Nike and Jesus Christ. All of them symbolize victory. Tiger often wears a Nike cap while golfing. The word “Nike” comes from the Greek goddess of victory....

Tiger Woods seemed to have a SERIOUS morality problem.

Jesus and tiger woods both stood for victory and both hung out with prostitutes. Both were/are not Caucasian. Both have people that follow(ed) them around Jesus had apostles tiger has a caddy and his 12 mistresses. Both have led to others making millions of dollars, Nike and churches. The comparisons seem endless. I can see it now, in the future when athletes win a championship they will thank their family and tiger woods.

The comparison is ridiculous. Even Tiger would tell you that.

I don't agree that Nike and Tiger symbolize victory. To me, Nike symbolizes incredibly overpriced sneakers and Tiger symbolizes incredible rise and fall.

Tiger Woods as a Christ figure? If I were a Christian, I would consider this as the most idiotic piece of blasphemy I had ever heard. The moral magnificence, the sophistication, the courage, the majesty, the dignity, the honesty, the selflessness, and the heritage of this great world religion compared to that juvenile commercial fraud!

I think the writer would have been better served by using someone else for a comparison to make his point.

Can't anyone write a letter without getting pummeled by the know-it-all commenters on this site?

Is this the second time you've thrown out the race baiting "not caucasian"?

Nike is a multi-national corporation whose only goal is to make huge profits for its shareholders. Tiger Woods is an athlete who gets paid a lot of money to play golf and represent the PGA. Neither one are a "symbol" of anything but representations of both the good and bad that comes with success.

Mrinbetween, the bigger question is, can ANYONE get a letter published? This one and most of them are ridiculous. Legit letters that are not blatantly someone trying to force their opinion on others or just downright silly are usually respected and left alone. As soon as I finish my letter about Plaxico Buress and the NRA symbolizing gun safety or the one I started about Lance Armstrong symbolizing sportsmanship, or the the one about Snoop Dogg secretly working for the DEA, I will send them in to the PJ. I will be disappointed if they don't get pummeled.

Happy Easter! A day that symbolizes the time when some grave robber broke into Jesus' tomb. Wait there was a big immovable rock in front of it....wait if the rock was immovable how did they get him in there to begin with....oh well that's why it's called faith.

How do u know that the rock was immovavle to put him in there? It was a tomb common to that era and the logistics and manpower necessary to take care of the arrangements would have been in place and taken care of. Y

On Easter Sunday if you can't say something nice. Regardless of your personal beliefs cut everyone a break. Badgering a certain faith on there holiest of days is inexcusable. Happy Easter to all. Enjoy your friends and families.

"Badgering a certain faith on there holiest of days is inexcusable."

But badgering, burning, torturing, and murdering homosexuals for thousands of years is A-OK, right?

50s4ever: So your argument is that possibly others have mistreated homosexuals, therefore it is OK for Christians to do so?

Seems somehow flawed.

Neither Tiger Woods or Nike are in the same ballpark as Jesus Christ. He is the most important person whoever walked the earth in the past, present or future!!!
