I've seen no mention of the check most everyone received that was working and/or paid taxes from the Clinton surplus. If it wasn't a surplus then I guess Bill and Hillary paid for it themselves.

Howard---how did Clinton do that? He didn't really have a surplus, but it was close to a balanced budget. Not nat'l debt of course. Check the record, not google. Don't suppose you recall what he called a "contract on America"?

Seadog and 50s4ever, you 2 are just too far gone to ever think rationally. We had peace and prosperity during Clinton's administration with a budget surplus at the end. At the end of Bush's administration we were in the worst financial position since the great depression. We are getting out of this massive hole now with Obama. It is as simple as that. Hit disagree all you want but don't bother with your partisan garble. You are 100% for anything conservative and 100% against anything liberal. It is like talking to a brick wall. Maybe I will find a formidable opponent in these forums but it sure isn't you two.

Seadog-he wants us to believe when the GOP is in the white house the dems let them have everything their way out of professional courtesy, sure to receive the same treatment when it's their turn? I'm insulted to be thought so completely ignorant of reality.

I'm confused. I thought we wanted budget cuts. Now we have them and there all wrong. Both sides feel that they are wrong, yet they voted them in and signed off.

Why is it an issue with the Republicans? Because we're reducing military cost. Oh - no, we can't do that. We are cutting FAA, FEMA and various other things that really don't affect us. I for one am hoping that this sequester goes through.

Yes,50s4ever, they gave everything to Bush. The wars, with no way to pay for - they were not even in the budget!. The Medicare part D, also with no plan to pay for. Freedom to all banks to send us into a massive recession. Millions of people loosing their retirement accounts. Tell me, 50s4ever, what did we NOT give Cheney and Bush?

Invading a country that hated al qaeda as much as we did, had no WMD, had nothing to do with 911, and killed thousands of our soldiers and their citizens. formerlyphil, in your mind that was just a walk in the park? Along with the torture and lies given to persuade people like General Powell charges should have definitely been brought up against Cheney and Bush. Then, at the end of his 8 years we are in the worst recession since the depression!! Rose colored glasses? Yours must be mighty thick, my friend.

& what is the u.s.'s single worst mistake in history? lol c'mon. howard you're so far to the left you're actually coming up on the right. conservatives are not acting like romney won. conservatives are acting like they compromised on tax increases & now that it's the white house's turn to compromise on spending cuts it's not happening. what fabled 8 years are you speaking of as well? life is great when viewed through those rose colored glasses! do you have an extra pair? i have to go to work later..

Consequences come with elections. Does anybody believe that the United States would have made it's single worst mistake in history if Bush was not in office? The conservatives are acting like Romney won and want everything their way. It just doesn't work like that. Conservatives had 8 years of which the Democrats GAVE them 8 years. Look what happened to the economy and world stature. Now the Conservatives can't give Obama one day. Your way or the highway to poverty.

The republicans have to pretend to be for minorities now to get votes. They also have to change the way conservative swing states count their electoral ballots to be heavily in their favor. Both of these tactics are despicable.

The first part of Obamas balance approach was done in January with the tax increase, now its time for the cuts.

Lets put the decrease in the increase of spending in terms we the working people can understand. For every $100 spent we are going to spend $97. So lets get real the will not hurt anyway near as bad as they say if they cut the waste.

Seadog, the republicans voted for it or it would not be happening. They thought it was a good idea. Local14701, yes, we all saw that analogy on Hannity and it is so far misleading which, unfortunately you will find out if the sequester happens. 50s4ever, "progs mass media lies and scare tactics", now there is a switch! The cuts are all on paper - no need to lie like Grandma's going to die. johnee, yes we should have cut the waste, but no one would agree on what is waste - your project or mine? A small percent across the board in all departments would be nice but all Obama wanted is what Romney campaigned on - A few less loopholes for the rich. (Another for it before you were against it) Now the billionaires will get the loophole on their brand new yacht but meals on wheels will struggle or even stop in some places. You call that a scare tactic? It isn't and I hope that isn't proven.

Typical government cuts, not as big increase as they want and cut where it hurts most versus waste. After the out cry the politicians will throw their hands up and say we tried but the people did not want the the cuts.

Doom and gloom...It's like a child who has a 10$ allowance that is supposed to go up to 20$. The child's dad says that the allowance will only go up to 15$ instead. The child then cries that you took 5$ away from me and I can't survive. Government is still growing!
