End-Around Move Was Not The Best Way To Sell County Home

March 1, 2013

The legislature in two attempts couldn’t sell the Chautauqua County Home the old fashion way. It also couldn’t sell it by doing an end-around of its own system....

All Ive seen is reporting about the sale of the home. I haven;t seen anything at all about coming to a more profitable arrangement without the necessity of a sale. Was that angle explored or not? Maybe it's time to do so?

I'm happy the bill to repeal the super majority rule failed. Passing it would have promoted the appearance, or even the possibility, of shady, background dealing with public property, something nobody wants to see except for those who would profit by such dealings. I urge the legislature to work to a realistic compromise, now that the sale has been defeated.

We don't need cocky people. We need people that are able to put their own feelings and agendas behind in order to come up with meaningful solutions. Decorum and respect are qualities we need to expect from our public servants and from our children, and each other as well.

P-J, we would have gotten over that bad taste in our mouth real quick.

macnizzle, she was right. How convenient to be all up in arms when Gov. Cuomo believes drastic changes are necessary, but when Larry Barmore feels drastic measures are necessary, it's ok? It's ok to change the rules, just like Governor Cuomo did? She is cocky. We need some cocky people to stand up and admit when they were wrong and stand up for what is right. I am not in her district, but I would vote for her. At least she's not a hipocrit.

Paula and everyone should be proud of the fact that our elected officials "DID NOT PLAY GAMES!" Think about being a parent.... I don't like daddys answer so I will go ask mommy.

The next offer will be for much less money and won't have the employee safeguards of the previous off, just wait and see.

macnizzle, so now a legislator who has been vocal in wanting the sale of the home is "cocky" because she changes her mind on the Super majority law? What is the matter with you? I disagree wholeheartedly with the Super Majority law, and I disagree this was an end around ploy. But at least this legistor was upfront and honest as to what changed her mind. We may disagree, but good for her to have the courage. It is the other 3 legislators who vote against the sale of this home for no good reason that you should be angry with.

Maybe next election when Paula starts her "song and dance" we can toss her out on her ear. She seems a tad bit cocky.

The vote Wednesday was not by the same tally as it was last month. In January the vote was 16 to 9 in favor of selling the home. On Wednesday it was 15 to 9. Obviously it is a total of nine legislators against the sale, not 10, as this editorial indicates. Two minor details, but worth correcting.

Maybe if they tried an "end-run" move instead of an "end-around" move they would have been more successful :)
