If sheriff can charge $25 dollars for every security system false alarm, why can't LBPD charge Walmart or mall $25 dollars everytime they have to process a shoplifter? The Sheiff has a better grip on this "pay for protection racket" with "enhanced road patrol" etc. LBPD should take lead from them and shake down anyone without Lakewood village address more for revenue. There is more than one way to skin a cat or get Busti residents to pay fair share.

Klum probably wants us to hire him and his fellow cart riders from Walmart to protect us!

Dear khulumzurug - what the heck are you talking about? You say a private security force would have been cheaper and better... yep - altho I cannot believe I read that, but that is what you said. Please enlighten us all and tell us who this private security force is and where do they come from and how much do they cost.

'OhPlease" I am hoping that it may have been a misprint saying that the village is now going to review the police contract; if they think they are going to review and change at this point it would have to be voted on all over again by both sides. The 'VillagePeople' just have to understand that. I am glad like you are that this is finally going to be finished.

The article says that Village of Lakewood will now review the contract after Busti has accepted it. WHAT? A contract is not changed after the other party accepts it. Where is the leadership Lakewood?

Askwhy - when Busti has 37% of calls why would they pay more than than. Get some sense.

Busti knows when they are getting a sweetheart of a deal. Lakewood Village only makes up 3 square miles of Town and pays for more than half the town police budget. The whole Police budget should be pushed up to town level like they did with Falconer and Celoron in town of Ellicott, and evenly spread among ALL town residents instead of disproportionately on the village the way it is now. Why should some pay more for protection than others. "Paying more for protection" ...what a racket!

Good for the Lakewood-Busti Police Department for securing this contract with the Town of Busti. I'm happy that the Town of Busti cares about the safety of their citizens. Unlike the Town of Westfield for choosing not to use their local police department for adequate response time, because there is nothing safe about the response time now.

Yes bring in the private security force and watch what happens... Remember the constitution protects the citizens from the government not necessarily from private citizens. Then people would be complaining about abuses. I have to laugh at comments like that because it shows a lack of knowledge on how things actually work. People will definately complain about the price of police protection and then will be the same ones who complain that the police weren't able to do something because they didn't have manpower to respond.
