A Family In Need

Here we go again. Did these people ever hear of renters insurance? There are people who've been displaced in our community longer than 3 weeks, does the PJ do articles on them? Nope.

genlee,in order for the post-journal to do articles on people who have been displaced longer than three weeks, somebody has to contact the post-journal. maybe these people did have insurance and their friends are doing the christian thing and lending a helping hand?

What's so Christian about holding your hands out for money? Surely I feel sorry for anyone involved in a fire, even my family was involved in a fire, but we never had our lives published for the world to see, we never asked for hand outs either. We had a few people that helped us rebuild and we always repaid them.

Not everyone can be fed the world on a silver spoon GenLee. Just because you have well off friends that are able to assist you in a time of need does not mean everyone else does as well. It's easy to put people down when you only know a quarter of the story. Have a heart and more love for others and you will lead a better and more fulfilled life.

I don't have friends that are well off. Chautauqua county boasts that it's an impoverished county, if this is so, act like it. Provide for all, not just a select few.

You stay classy GenLee. To everyone else, just ignore him/her. All they are looking for is a reaction. Apparently they have nothing better to do in their lives then log onto the PJ at 4:21 in the morning and talk crap. I actually feel bad for him/her.

GenLee not everyone can afford insurance. Do you personally know these people? I don't but have heard she WORKS nights. I'm sorry you are so bitter. If they are asking for handouts and don't deserve them they have God to answer to. My bible say not to judge.

I for one think it is great that a community pulls together to help these folks, If it were you, you would be greatful for anyhelp you could get, What is your problem GenLee, if you do not approve just do not help.

Yep, a community of broke, poor people comes together. This is a job the government to do, we surely pay enough in taxes. But hey, go ahead, I'll continue paying my bills and rent on time.

No Genlee this is not a job for the government. There are to many already think government should take care of you cradle to grave. It is a job for the community to reach out a lend a helping hand to them. Same as the churches of the area should be doing.

Renters insurance, if that was what they were, isn't that expensive. I've heard it was around $150 a year.

Sure hope if I ever need something my community will come together and help. I have gone to many well organized bennifits and guess what The money goes directly to the family!!!

I would have a hard time asking for assistance from the community and wouldn't do it. Rebuilding is a slow process, and wouldn't want people's pity. Sorry if it sounds so negative.

They have insurance, but unsurprisingly, insurance companies do not pay up immediately, and it takes a long time to replace everything that a family has lost.

I happen to know the family in this article, and for the record, they are embarrassed at accepting charity. They are also kind, extremely genuine people, which is why I imagine some of the quotes sound awkward. They aren't politicians and frankly have had the year from hell, with the cherry on top being their house burning down just after Christmas.

As to why the PJ ran the article on this family and not others? Because there was a big spaghetti dinner fundraiser for them, and they and their families are very active in the community. Maybe GenLee doesn't care, but a lot of other people know them and wanted to go to help out. The PJ often runs articles on fundraisers for local families.

Relax a bit, GenLee. These people are hard workers who don't deserve your scorn.
