The extreme paranoia from the far right is jarring, y'all are as bad as the lunatics on the far left.

You can never ban homemade or over the counter items that will go bang, when i was a kid we would take empty soda cans, but a mixture of oxy/acet. gas in them, plug hole with window putty and shoot them with a 12 gauge, would make one heck of a boom, never heard of anyone outlawing a cutting torch set.

Going back to my original post, I am not in favor of any ban on tannerite. I am in favor of regulating and tracking purchasers.
If someone wants to buy it for entertainment purposes, then so be it. Give the store your name, show some ID and limit the quantity to less than 5 lbs. If they want more, wait 30 days or file for a "special permit" that dictates that a higher quantity is needed and what the purpose is.
This wont stop a determined person from doing harm, but hopefully a diligent police force could at least have some heads up that someone is acquiring mass quantities of this stuff and can check things out.
Hope that clarifies my take on this.

Here's an idea for those proposing bans or more background checks then we should have to have background checks for the freedom of speech right? Or background checks to go to church?

"In 1919, the German government passed the Regulations on Weapons Ownership, which declared that "all firearms, as well as all kinds of firearms ammunition, are to be surrendered immediately."[2] Under the regulations, anyone found in possession of a firearm or ammunition was subject to five years' imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 marks" But that wasn't under hitler. "Indeed, there was no need for the Nazis to pass a law like that, because the earlier Weimar government had already passed gun registration laws. When I asked Cramer about his research, he said, "The laws adopted by the Weimar Republic intended to disarm Nazis and Communists were sufficiently discretionary that the Nazis managed to use them against their enemies once they were in power." In other words, they didn't need to pass additional laws. The Nazis did pass a weapons law in 1938, but that only added restrictions to the previous law, especially for Jews and other "non-citizen

Okay, I gave you the befit of the doubt and looked up your website. Which took some effort as the link you provided is incorrect. I did find it after experimenting with w-w-w and h-t-t-p in the beginning. The correct website you provided is:

After reading "CraigWestly's" quote attributed to Adolph (spelled wrong) Hitler I stand firm in stating that the numerous sources I checked (There are many more that concur)are accurate and that your quote attributed to Hitler is False.
So, Redbird, I gave you the courtesy of checking your source, an internet forum, similar to craigslist, now I ask, that you read the sources I provided.
One last source for you, the Fordham Law Review, a trusted educational institution. ir.lawnet.fordham.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=4029&context=flr
It is a dot EDU website, in case asterisks are inputted by the Post Journal.

That would include the hundreds of thousands M-1 carbines (and commerical clones ie. Universal) & the M-1 Garands that have been sold to us by the U.S. government over the past 50 years.

the state defines an "assault rifle" as anything having a "military style."
any rifles that have pistol grips are now illegal. any rifles that are fitted for a bayonet are now illegal. any rifle with a folding stock is now illegal.
& in case anybody forgot i'd like you to google "housing collapse andrew cuomo HUD."

So some idiot desides to blow up 18 lbs. of this stuff and what's one of the first thing the sheriff says "let's ban it". How many yrs. has tannerite been around? How may people has it killed? How many buildings have been brought down? The answer is ZERO, but Let's Ban It!!!! Unbelieveable!

Ok, contrary to earlier reports, it looks like you WON'T have to modifiy magazines of less than ten, but more than seven. HOWEVER you it will be illegal to put more than seven rounds in them at any given time. If you damage or lose such a magazine you may not replace it with a magazine of more than seven rounds, and those aren't generally available , so you'll end up with a single shot. The 75 page legislation can be viewed at the appropriate article on the WGRZ-TV website. It appears that "assault weapons" will have to be sold to a dealer (for out of state sale only) or turned into the state whenever you decide that you don't want it any longer.

The kid was having fun. It was legal so what is the big deal. No they should not ban it as quantities that you are allowed to buy are already limited. Not sure what the limit in this sad state of New York is but in other states it ranges from 5pounds to 50 pounds allowed.

@Redbird, in what book is this quote attributed to Hitler? I will gladly check the facts if you provide your source.
It is not in Mein Kampf, of that I am certain as I have read that.
Here are the sources I used to check your Hitler Quote and found it to be false:
***********snopes****/politics/quotes/disarm.asp
***********straightdope****/columns/read/1791/did-hitler-ban-gun-ownership
I will leave you with another quote I found while researching the facts:
"A quotation at the right moment is like bread to the famished." – Anonymous

Oh boy....here we go again....equating a proposed ban of high powered explosives to Hitler and Nazi Germany is a little extreme, isn't redbird? Extremism among both liberals and conservatives just makes me SMH...
