Live out on border of NY in Busti, and we heard it also. Checked radar for Thunderstorms, none. Strange thing, was our small dog started growling and staring out prior to this Big Boom sound.??

I highly doubt 3 6 pound boxes of tannerite would be loud enough to be heard by me in jamestown and also by my friend that lives 20 mi;es away from me in Panama. It sounded alot more like the boom before an earthquake.

This may have happened, but that would not blow windows out of a home on Orr St..nor be heard all the way up to Dunkirk. Now let's find out what really happened. Thank you

I'm not buying this story one bit cause its odd that people all the way out in Cheektowaga an Niagara Falls all heard the same boom as we did and there is no way this 20 yr old boy could make that big of a sound to be heard that far.

I believe their was a Meteor and the loud boom happens when it goes through the atmosphere ? Iam going out and find it , I wonder what its worth ?

If it was some guy shooting tanerite that caused the boom, a boom heard all over chautauqua and cattaragus counties, he would be dead. That would have had to be a Massive explosion. There would be no 20 year old left to question at that point.

Possible explanation if it had been heard for a few miles around, but it was reported in Limestone too, for Pete's sake! That would be pretty unlikely .....

Unless this occured on a recognized/established gun range, I believe somebody is going to be in trouble with the DEC for carrying a rifle afield after legal sundown.

What about the 3 "booms" heard earlier in the afternoon?

Yeah right, that kids ears would of been bleeding! Unless he shot from 3 miles away. At 6:15 in darkness highly doubt anyone was shooting at anything in a ravine.

Sounds like some sort of a cover-up to me..........

Coincidental. I'll bet the BIG BOOM has nothing to do with the tannerite boom's heard earlier. I too heard a large boom several years ago that turned out to have been a small meteor that landed in Canada. Made a heck of a sonic boom!

Wow, an explosion loud enough to be heard all over Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, parts of PA and even Niagara Falls, but not loud enough to be heard at my house near Allen Park. That is strange.

I can't stop laughing at LPDs conclusion!! So it's ironic that people as far away as Silver Creek called 911 to report an explosion at that exact same time?!?! Get outta here!

I heard a boom around 2:00ish (kiantone area)that we thought was weird, but to be out shooting at 6:15 seems like a stretch to me. I'm sure there will be more to this story.
