For the record, a hike from $7.25 to $8.75 translates into a 20.7% hike, not 17%.

If the minimum wage goes up does the gov get more tax revenue from the vast number of taxes we pay?

Entry level jobs make minimum wage, if you are in a minimum wage job for more than 1 yr, something is wrong.

Local business leaders should be ashamed to not support the increase in the minimium wage. You try to live on seven dollars and twenty five cents. Businesses that pay that should not be in business. Those of you who pay minimium wage should feel guilty when you have that lobster dinner and get into your fancy car. Your business will not grown without good workers and good workers need to be paid a fair hourly rate. Eight seveny five is not really a fair rate but it is something.

Minimum wage jobs are not intended to live on. There part time jobs for people with limited skills and limited hours

Minimum wage is met for a starting wage not for once you developed skills that makes one to be of value. I realy think that if the state realy wanted to help people they would do away with minimum wage period.

Why stop there, Cuomo?

Why not increase it to $40/hr? Now that's a living wage!

What's that, you say? That would wreck the economy? Hmmm...

I swear, if we required an Economics 101 course for everyone sworn into office, at least 75% of them would be ineligible.

Of course they oppose it.....they want to keep their workers oppressed while improving their bottom lines. Same old story here....Gee....wonder why the population is declining? There is no competition in the area so employers can and will take advantage of the available workforce.

I agree to disagree, we all want and need more money to support our families however when minimum wages goes up so does everything else and we keep digging deeper and deeper hole.We need to get the value of dollar up again. The mid seventies I made a little over $300. a month and lived like a king for two dollars an hour , the dollar had value.

I'm totally for the minimum wage to be increased in NYS. I make twice that amount per hour and find it hard to pay for everything. How do they expect those people to live? Just to fill your gas tank to go to work all week is $60 in my vehicle. I can't imagine a family on minimum wage even being able to pay that! Everything keeps going up but their wage. If employers would pay better wages, people would get off of unemployment! When you can make more on your unemployment than working a minimum wage job I don't blame them because you just can't make ends meet anymore!!! People are taxed to death on everything in NYS. We are taxed on our pay before we get it and then taxed on it again for everything! Property taxes, utilities, gas, and everything we buy. No wonder no one wants to live in NYS! I vote for the increase for these people fighting to survive!!!!

They oppose a minimum wage increase? Say it will be bad? I would like to see them try to live on 7.25/hr. For that matter I would like to see them try to make ends meet on 8.75/hr. You can't raise a family on those kinds of wages but the bean counters don't think of that. If they want people off unemployment then pay them a livable wage. Give them a reason to get off unemployment.
