Very good article. But even if you revaluate every property in the county the problem remains the same. If we gain more revenue from revalueation our Goverment will find a new way to spend it. The problem being to much Goverment. Starting from the smallest city right up through to president. Our goverment at evry level has a policy of spend spend and spend again they will continue this policy until they tax everybody to the point where we are now. No new way to tax or increase because people dont have money anymore. Sorry to say it but we are broke and goverment needs to live within itsmeans justlike anyone else,

Ditto Phil! 1st, a question to the PJ: why does anyone submitting a letter to the editor HAVE to include their real name, address, phone number, etc. & yet you make an exception for "hall elliot?" Is this a new policy?

Don't forget the non-profit agency-owned properties (Boys& Girls Club, Family Service, etc.). Also, all of the city parks.

harry how about all the churches we have inside city limits? what about lutheran social services (an obviously high stakes investor with the PJ as you can see their ads all over this website) & their sprawling campus on falconer st.?
there's a lot of religious organizations that are (obviously) tax exempt in jamestown. is the appleyard tax exempt? just curious.

Wonder what the number of renters, and section 8 housing has changed since 1970 too? Less property owners with skin in the game.

formerlyphil, I know that the percentage is pretty high, but the exemptions are primarily schools, government owned buildings and BPU owned property.
