Failure In Washington Ruins New Year’s Day

January 9, 2013

Seeming a bit surprised at the extent of their victory, a few liberal members of Congress were candid enough to admit the American people were shortchanged on New Year’s Da....

the same thing will happen again. all the inept idiots from both parties will squabble until the 11th hour then the dems will get almost all of their wishes granted without cutting spending because the GOP can't afford to be an impediment in the eyes of the media & the people.

& the beat goes on..

lol what a joke. they admit it's a cost saving technique. it used to be loitering was punishable by detention (& after repeated offenses suspension). but why discipline? this way nobody's feelings get hurt.

Deja vu! Seriously PJ, you're really getting lazy. First you reprint the same questions of the day, now you're reprinting same "opinion" pieces you've already printed ('Failure Continues Into The New Year' 1/4/13).

My tax increase was saved, so frankly it was a benefit for me and many of you. "The sequester was rescinded" is the issue. Although many disagreed with my previous statement, I do believe the sequester was the negotiating point. I am not saying the legislation was perfect, but in regards to controlling my taxes, I received the homerun ball!

Yet another 'twist of words' game the PJ loves to play - or we can call it the half-truth commentary of the day. For example: "All consideration of getting the nation's fiscal house in order was kicked down the road, allegedly for later this year." There is a specific time frame that the sequester has to happen - I believe it is 60 days.

Seadog, you are right, it is not people making over 250k that will see their taxes going up, it is those folks making over 400k that will see the increase. If you are thinking that the 2% FICA reinstatement is a new tax that just shows how far you will stretch to manipulate the truth.

I don't see FICA as being a tax. It's an investment into your social security account. Calling it a tax is a right wing propaganda point designed to malign the other side.

As far as I can tell, they didn't include cuts because they figured it would be better to postpone that part of the issue, in order to prevent it from delaying the bill being passed and thus throwing us off the cliff. I find it interesting that they all agreed to postpone the spending cuts (sequestration) part of the issue but now they are using that to criticize the minority party in the House of Reps.

I'd like to know what the PJ considers perilous about taxes. Our history has shown that high taxes do not necessarily hinder economic growth. Are they still pushing the fiction of supply side economics??

Seadog, Untrue:"Key parts of the Bush tax cuts will expire as a result of the new fiscal cliff legislation, hitting American taxpayers with taxes of about $39.5 billion each year for the next decade." Please explain what you think are Bush tax cuts that will expire. There are none. I already commented on FICA, the “payroll-tax holiday” - yet you were ignorant enough to still bring it up. Also, explain what the new Obamacare taxes are. You can't - The old scare tactics you all loved to use aren't working any more - time to think of something else.

Seadog, you sure are stretching to try and explain what you want. Like, prices on goods have never gone up because of any reason - this time you point out excise taxes. I can point out thousands of reasons for product goods to raise in price over the last 236 years. At the end of this year you tell me how many more taxes you are paying and let's just leave it at that, ok?

Howard, give up on the dum ducks. These folks have no understanding of the real world and all they will do is itch and complain. All that matters is that we have the game ball!~

PWU thats what scares us,you guys have the game ball. The amazing thing is how you constantly defend all your lefty buddies, hypocrites all. They all scream and holler for higher taxes all the while doing everything they can to avoid them. The Wash Post,Algore,Buffett and countless others all trying to sell companies or giving out their dividends before they 1st of the year to avoid higher taxes.Obama and Biden threatening executive action on all sorts of things from guns to immigration to debt ceiling and whatever else they can do.Scary really scary, but you go right ahead and keep defending more and more government and control over are lives.

"The sequester was rescinded" I DO NOT SUPPORT MORE SPENDING! I have no problem with the "sequester". Who has a problem? The Republicans. Why do I say that? Because at the same time they ask for cuts, they WILL NOT except cuts to our military! Watch and See.

what would be so terrible with a 1 to 1 ratio of one dollar in cuts for very one in new taxes? BTW: aid to other countries is actually less than 1.5% of he budget and money to PP is so small it is less than one tenth of 1 percent. I for one am glad that the clergy and the right wing have been unsuccessful in their efforts to thwart planned parenthood as well as roe v wade..and I am not even a fan of abortion.. think about it...
