"WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden vowed urgent action against gun violence in America Wednesday, pledging steps by the Obama administration that he said could "take thousands of people out of harm's way" and improve the safety of millions more.
But a day ahead of a meeting with the National Rifle Association, which has sunk past gun control efforts and is opposing any new ones, Biden signaled that the administration is mindful of political realities that could imperil sweeping gun control legislation, and is willing to settle for something less. He said the administration is considering its own executive action as well as measures by Congress, but he didn't offer specifics."

The percentage of legal, registered gun owners that commit crimes with guns is very low. It's the criminal with the illegal gun that everyone has to worry about!

lone, this problem is not liberal and its not conservative. we have a national problem where thousands of americans die every year from guns. Is the answer 'take away all the guns?" of course not. Why does the right always start that conspiracy theory? Because its a hot button for all the so called Patriots, to get them riled up. No one is coming for your guns, some serious restrictions on assault weapons is a common sense direction, mental health funding is also a common sense direction. If we follow the second amendment why not just let everyone own muskets eh? Weapons have evolved and some restrictions must evolve with them. That idiot lapierre and his only answer being "more guns" is just crazy. this is the same guy that called ATF agents "jack booted thugs" and caused GHWB to renounce his membership to the NRA. All you so called patriots that are against special interests in washington should take a long hard look at what the NRA actually stands for. it

inspires and welcomes the "rise up against the government" which back in the day could have been called treason. The entire crazy right wing "us against them" mentality has got to stop. we have a duly elected governmnet, elected by the people. I see one side trying to protect its citzens and one side trying to protect gun manufacturers and people that would like to overthrow the government because they don't like who was elected. by the way, I didn't vote for GWB but in never even entered my mind that I should start a revolution because he was elected and all the Liberal Media thay you guys go on about didn't suggest or promote such nonsense either. Why does corporate media keep starting these conspiraciess??

The thing is bobby, true assault weapons are already banned. So yes I feel it's just another infringement. I don't have a problem with banning automatic weapons (they already are) nor do I see a need for more then a 10 round clip. If that is all they want then go ahead but you know the feds. Give them an inch they take a mile. Bush proved that with homeland security and I trust Obama even less because he is a liberal.

lone, yes full auto is banned but again there is no need for the weapons of which we speak except for the killing of human beings. The NRA has become as powerful as the oil industry, if a majority of the population is for some kind of regulation then they should work with the people instead of agains them. I own a handgun and I believe I handle it responsibly, i go to the gun range and I see and interact with the SC racists that own ARs and large calibre high capacity weapons and believe me there is a difference.

Part of your problem seems to be you see a racist in everything. Why does it have to be racist to own an AR-15?

these are the same guys that have been led to believe that our president is a muslim whos only purpose is to bring down the US. Seriously? He isn't a citizen, he is a plant by terrorists groups, the affordable health care act will ruin the health care system, he will take our guns, he is a socialist, take back our country....the corporate and right wing media play up that crap all the time..and these knuckleheads go out and buy more guns "just in case"

I don't think he's a Muslim at all. But I do believe he has socialist leanings much like you.I think the way the healthcare act was done is totally wrong so and I know many blacks in my family and friends who think the same thing. So that makes everyone racist? Come on bobby aren't you just a little better then that?

Seems he is having problems looking up a meaning that fits what he wants. Let me help a little " The "AR" in AR-15 comes from the ArmaLite name". See it really does not mean assault rifle.

Does it occur to anyone that murders by these rifles only account for less than half of 1% of all gun related deaths? OR that over 90 % of all the shootings are gang and/or drug related? OR that most of all these murders occur in gun cities where guns are outlawed? LA Chicago NYC ... Is there a pattern here? Use your brains people. Think for God sakes. check the numbers for yourself. They are goverment numbers. More people are killed with hammers than AR s.

"President Barack Obama vowed on Monday to push "vigorously" for measures to curb deadly gun violence and pressed foes of new restrictions in the aftermath of the Newtown tragedy to "examine their own conscience." Obama also admitted he faced stiff opposition from gun-rights advocates in Congress and vowed executive action when possible." Dictator style otherwise known as the Obama executive order to do away with rights
