Catherine Hofgren, 65, a congressional and executive agency staff member, died of aplastic anemia on Aug, 23 in Keowee Key, S.C., her retirement home since 2003. Ms. Hofgren was born and raised in Jamestown, N.Y., and graduated from Jamestown High School. She was the daughter of Ethel and Wilfred Hofgren of Jamestown. They, and her brother, Daniel Hofgren, preceded her in death. A 1965 graduate of Mary Baldwin College, in Staunton, Va., she moved to Washington, D.C., immediately following graduation to serve as an aide to her home-town Congressman Charles E. Goodell (R- NY). She later worked in Goodell's Senate office. In the 1970's, Ms. Hofgren was an original staff member of Bailey, Deardourff and Associates, a pioneering political consultant firm. As a result of her work on the firm's campaigns she moved to Jefferson City, Mo., where she served as administrative assistant to Governor, now U.S. Senator, Christopher 'Kit' Bond.
