The Savior Syndrome

This country has had its share of problems in recent years, but then again, that is nothing new. Every issue that we deal with now has been suffered through many times during the millennia of human existence. For every modern problem one can cite, there have been similar difficulties in the past, typically in larger, more grotesque proportions than we in America experience now. Human ingenuity in free societies has provided for more and better food, clothing, housing, hygiene, transportation and just about any other physical need for humanity. If necessity is the mother of invention, economic freedom is its father. For many decades, the mentality of the American people has been gradually changing. The personal responsibility and independent spirit that inspired such progress in the human condition of free people is being replaced by the view of society as provider and the individual as the receiver of benefits.
