¯ In 1908, for the first time in the history of political conventions, an attempt would be made to moderate the temperature in the hall where the Democratic National Convention was to be held in Denver in the coming week. Snow would be used for that purpose. ¯ A letter had been received from H.M. Clarke of the Chautauqua County Fair Association stating that, contrary to the general understanding, the legislature at the last session failed to make any appropriation for county fairs. There was every reason to believe this would be the death blow to the county fairs throughout New York state. ¯ In 1958, the Buffalo Office of the State Department of Public Works was sending investigators to the scene of a construction project near Cassadaga where two workmen were killed when they were pinned between two large concrete walls. One of the walls, investigators said, gave way and fell against the other while the workmen were stripping wood forms from them. The project was part of a $2,265,00
