Citizen-Police Coalition Kicks Off Back To School Drive
As children head back to school, required to bring an ever-increasing amount of supplies with them for the school year, not every family is able to foot the bill. But an area organization has stepped up to provide a little relief. The Jamestown Citizen Police Neighborhood Watch Coalition will be collecting supplies for the city’s school children for the seventh year in a row. Kim Ecklund, coalition president, said Project S.U.P.P.L.Y., which stands for Supplies for Upward Progression and Preparing Literate Youth, makes a difference for the area’s children. ‘‘The program is here to help disadvantaged youth in the community to have the same tools to further their education that other children do,’’ Mrs. Ecklund said. ‘‘It has a tremendous impact each year and that’s why we keep doing it.’’ The program, which aims to help bridge the financial gap for students, is coordinated by the coalition but administered by the schools.
