Bachmann, Romney And The Tea Party

September 8, 2011 - Nick Dean
Forget all the pre-primary stuff currently happening, Michelle Bachmann and Mitt Romney have their own comic books coming out this fall.

Better yet, the Tea Party gets its own focus in the pages of "Political Power: The Tea Party Movement."

All are set for release this November and December from Bluewater Productions, an independent publisher of comic books, young adult books and graphic novels.

According to a press release from Bluewater, each comic presents a middle-of-the-road chronicling of the candidates' lives and the history of the Tea Party.

Bluewater started its bio-comic line back in 2008 with a series called "Female Force," which featured everyone from Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin to Michelle Obama and Rosie O'Donnell.

"Our goal with these comics is not to pick a side, but to spark the interest of our readers and let them study both the lives of Rep. Bachmann and Gov. Romney closer," says Darren G. Davis, president of Bluewater Productions, of the new comics. "And when you consider historical significance of what the Tea Party has brought to the table, you find it is not just a nod to the American Revolution, but it has forced a conversation in modern politics."

For my money, the only comic I want with a politician on it is this issue of "Amazing Spider-Man" from early 2009.

Sorry for the bait-and-switch with this blog post.

Actually, no... I'm not sorry. Hopefully the blog title attracted a few political-minded readers who wouldn't have otherwise clicked to read the post.

Maybe I'll request a review copy of the Tea Party book and have Mel McGinnis do a guest spot in my December "Nerding Out" column. Thoughts?

It's been a long time since my last blog post here. This space has sort of become a place for me to promote my "Nerding Out" column.

The column ran in The Post-Journal this past Sunday. The text can be read by clicking here. Or, click here to view the column as it looked in Sunday's paper.

Poll Question:
Which would you rather read?
A) The Bluewater Romney comic
B) The Bluewater Bachmann comic
C) The Bluewater Tea Party comic
D) The "Steampunk" Sarah Palin comic: (link)
~Or~
E) Barack The Barbarian: (link)

I guess I should also offer an (F) for "None of the above."

Also: Which of the other Republican hopefuls for president would you like to see get their own comic book? What publisher would print the book? What would that book look like? Imagine a Newt Gingrich comic drawn by Rob Liefeld! Or a Rick Perry comic from the creators/writers/illustrators of DC's "Jonah Hex." Let your imagination run wild! And leave me your thoughts in the comments section below!

Why, oh why, was this not created during the Clinton/Bob Dole election?

And how about having a Ralph Nader: Master of Spoilage comic? It could even be set in some bizarre other-world where no one uses fossil fuels or bathes.

I was hoping that Alex P. Keaton would run.
