Frank's Forecast #5

October 8, 2010 - Mike Frank
Good grief!

The boys in the NFL decided to show me why it's a good idea I don't spend real money on these picks. I went 8-2 in high school, 4-2 in college, and 8-6 for the pros, for a total of 20-10, which seems to be a recurring theme so far. For the year, I am at 82-38.

I'll try to format this week's prognostications so they are a bit more readable. Still adjusting to the changes here at our online home.

And AWAY we go:

HIGH SCHOOL

Just two weeks left in the regular season, so this week's games should have a big impact on the playoff seeding. I'm not sure how exactly those things are determined, but it's gotta be clearer than the BCS.

CLASS AA

Jamestown (4-1) at Clarence (5-0) — The Red Raiders hit the road, looking to preserve their win streak against the Red Devils. However, that could prove to be a difficult task — CLARENCE by 7

CLASS B

Dunkirk (3-2) at Pioneer (4-1) — It's been a nice run, but I'll be getting off the Marauders' bandwagon this week — PIONEER by 7

CLASS C

Southwestern (5-0) at Fredonia (5-0) — Hillbillies will try to knock off the current king of the hill in Class C, but Trojans are used to being the target — SOUTHWESTERN by 10

Salamanca (3-2) at Allegany-Limestone (1-4) — The Gators took Fredonia to OT before losing, so I think they'll halt the Warriors' win streak — ALLEGANY-LIMESTONE by 10

Falconer (1-4) at Cassadaga Valley (1-4) — Both have had their struggles. Cougars look a bit stronger lately — CASSADAGA VALLEY by 10

CLASS D

Randolph (5-0) at Frewsburg (4-1) — Bears have had a good run, but I'll go with the defending champs — RANDOLPH by 14

Pine Valley (2-3) at Cattaraugus-Little Valley (3-2) — Both have alternated wins and losses, so we'll go with home field advantage for the T-wolves — CATT/LV by 10

Ellicottville (1-4) at Portville (5-0) — Records tell the story; Panthers will keep rolling — PORTVILLE by 21

Forestville (0-5) at Franklinville (0-5) — First win for somebody. — FRANKLINVILLE by 7

Chautauqua Lake (3-2) at Clymer (1-4) — Pirates got into the win column last week, but Thunderbirds will come on top here — CHAUTAUQUA LAKE by 21

Maple Grove (3-1) at Sherman (2-2) — Tough final stretch for Sherman with SC, the Red Dragons, and T-birds next week — MAPLE GROVE by 14

Silver Creek (4-0) at Westfield (3-1) — Black Knights have done well on both sides of the ball, giving up just 19 points all year. This should be a good tussle — SILVER CREEK by 14

COLLEGE

Indiana (3-1) at #2 Ohio State (5-0) — Buckeyes survived trip to Champaign. Hopefully, they get a decent lead and Tressel decides to give Joe Bauserman some playing time. The Hoosiers last beat OSU in 1987 and 1988 — OHIO STATE

#17 Michigan State (5-0) at #18 Michigan (4-1) — Spartans proved they are serious with a win over the Badgers. That school up north has "Shoelace" but if Indiana can light em up — MICHIGAN STATE

#1 Alabama (5-0) at #19 South Carolina (3-1) — Tide keep on rollin'. Get it? GET IT? (cheap laughs are the best)— ALABAMA

#23 Florida State (4-1) at #13 Miami (3-1) — I'm rooting for Miami to do well to help the Bucks in the BCS. Welcome to the world of college football — MIAMI by 14

———

NFL

St. Louis (2-2) at Detroit (0-4) — Lions racing Bills to the bottom of the league — RAMS

Denver (2-2) at Baltimore (3-1) — Orton and Co. have been lighting it up — BRONCOS

NY Giants (2-2) at Houston (3-1) — Not quite buying the Texans yet — NY GIANTS

Green Bay (3-1) at Washington (2-2) — McNabb learning that an ugly win is still a win — REDSKINS

Chicago (3-1) at Carolina (0-4) — Todd Collins steps in while Jay Cutler tries to see just one of everything — BEARS

Atlanta (3-1) at Cleveland (1-3) — Matt Spielman will be in the house, so expect a freak blizzard to hit northeastern Ohio — FALCONS

Jacksonville (2-2) at Buffalo (0-4) — Jags need to play Trent Edwards just out of spite — JAGUARS

Tampa Bay (2-1) at Cincinnati (2-2) — Bengals get back on track — BENGALS

Kansas City (3-0) at Indianapolis (2-2) — The only undefeated team in the NFL is KC. 1972 Dolphins (and i suppose the Pats) can get the champagne ready — COLTS

New Orleans (3-1) at Arizona (2-2) — Matt Leinart? Gone. Derek Anderson? Nope. Max Hall will start for the Cards. This one will be UGLY — SAINTS

Tennessee (2-2) at Dallas (1-2) — Cowboys have had a week to regroup. Key will be keeping Chris Johnson in check — COWBOYS

San Diego (2-2) at Oakland (1-3) — Somebody's got to hold everybody else up and that's the Silver and Black's job since 2003 — CHARGERS

Philadelphia (2-2) at San Francisco (0-4) — Eagles bounce back as 49ers increase the misery in the Bay – EAGLES

Minnesota (1-2) at New York Jets (3-1) — Somehow, I think the Vikes will draw up a couple plays for Moss. Jets counter with Santonio Holmes and Tomlinson — JETS

Until next week, keep SPEAKING FRANKLY
