Frank's Forecast #2

September 17, 2010 - Mike Frank

Well, let's see here. My first go-round resulted in a respectable 21-11 mark.

As usual, the NFL proved to be the monkey wrench in the works. with the Colts, Bengals, Cowboys, Jets and Chargers finding various ways to fail.

We'll try to make it an even number of games from now on (makes the math easier).

Here we go with Week 2's prognostications:

Class AA

Bennett (1-1) at Jamestown (1-1) — The Red Raiders got in the win column last week. They'll get another as they open their home season — JAMESTOWN by 10

Class B

Springville (0-2) at Dunkirk (1-1) — Marauders will live up to their name as Springville has yet to score this season — DUNKIRK by 21

Class D

Randolph (2-0) vs. Forestville (0-2) — Cardinals keep flying along against overmatched Hornets. Game is at Silver Creek's field — RANDOLPH by 21

Cattaraugus-Little Valley (1-1) at Ellicottville (1-1) — The Timberwolves fell to Randolph, while the Eagles topped Forestville. C-LV bounces back this week — CATT-LV by 10

Portville (2-0) at Pine Valley (1-1) — Both have wins over Franklinville, but we'll give the edge to....the Panthers. You want more specific? Fine, fine — PORTVILLE by 7

Frewsburg (1-1) at Franklinville (0-2) — Bears will be grouchy after last week's loss to Portville — FREWSBURG by 21

Panama (0-2) at Chautauqua Lake (1-1) — Another set of Panthers gets into the win column — PANAMA by 10

Silver Creek (2-0) at Clymer (0-2) — Definitely would like to see the Black Knights in person at some point — SILVER CREEK by 21

NON LEAGUE

Southwestern (2-0) at East Aurora (0-2) — For once, C outranks B as the Trojans march on to another victory — SOUTHWESTERN by 21

Falconer (1-1) at Cleveland Hill (2-0) — Not sure why this is "nonleague" since they're both in Class C. Anyway, could be a long day on the road for the Golden Falcons as CH's first two wins were by big margins — CLEVELAND HILL by 14

———

COLLEGE

Not too much exciting on the NCAA schedule. Buckeyes will roll over their in-state neighbors from Ohio U.

#8 Nebraska (2-0) at Washington (1-1) — The Huskers defense will try to slow down Locker's Heisman campaign. I think he'll have a decent day, but this isn't Syracuse — NEBRASKA by 10

Arizona State (2-0) at #11 Wisconsin (2-0) — Not to look too far ahead, but presuming OSU holds form, their first big test will be at the Badgers next month. — WISCONSIN by 14

#10 Florida (2-0) at Tennessee (1-1) — Florida WR got arrested after sending a text "Time to Die" to a girl. Even Maurice Clarett thinks that's offensive. Road crowd sure to make things interesting in this rivalry game — TENNESSEE by 7

#9 Iowa (2-0) at #24 Arizona (2-0) — Hawkeyes face OSU the week before you-know-who (M---an in case you don't). Only matchup of ranked teams, this will be worth staying up late — IOWA by 7

And as for the pros:

Chicago (1-0) at Dallas (0-1) — Bears lucked out with a screwy rule call. Hopefully, Dallas now knows chokeholds are not permitted either — COWBOYS

Arizona (1-0) at Atlanta (0-1) — Falcons lost in OT. Won't get that far this week — FALCONS

Buffalo (0-1) at Green Bay (1-0) — Packers don't need Ryan Grant for this one — PACKERS

Philadelphia (0-1) at Detroit (0-1) — Lions deserve a break, but — EAGLES

Pittsburgh (1-0) at Tennessee (1-0) — Steelers at least won't go 0-4 without Big Ben — TITANS

Baltimore (1-0) at Cincinnati (0-1) — Picked against the Pats, picking against the Ravens — BENGALS

Kansas City (1-0) at Cleveland (0-1) — As I said in Smack Talk, local talent reviving KC  — CHIEFS

Tampa Bay (1-0) at Carolina (0-1) — Bucs aren't that good, Panthers aren't that bad — PANTHERS

Miami (1-0) at Minnesota (0-1) — Minny needs to get offense in gear — VIKINGS

Seattle (1-0) at Denver (0-1) — Seattle looked solid in week 1 — SEAHAWKS

St. Louis (0-1) at Oakland (0-1) — Ray Charles wouldn't watch this game. Wonder if anyone in L.A. will? — RAIDERS

Houston (1-0) at Washington (1-0) — Like Chiefs, Redskins looking much improved. Wonder if they pay cigarette taxes? — REDSKINS

Jacksonville (1-0) at San Diego (0-1) — Chargers got buzzed last week, rebound this week — CHARGERS

New England (1-0) at NY Jets (0-1) — Holding my nose to pick the Brady Bunch — PATRIOTS

NY Giants (1-0) at Indianapolis (0-1) — See above with San Diego for Colts' attitude — COLTS

New Orleans (1-0) at San Francisco (0-1) — 49ers would do better with Troy Smith in lineup (not that I'm biased or anything) — SAINTS

Check back next week. Until then, keep SPEAKING FRANKLY
