Gadget of the Week 2-14-09
February 11, 2009 - Dave Hecei
More and more gadgets require batteries, usually AAs. Current rechargeable batteries are NiMH type, or Nickel Metal Hydride. The NiMH type rechargeables last longer, charges faster, and doesn't have the "memory" effect that the older NiCad batteries used to suffer from. Recently introduced is the USBCELL from Moixa Energy. For anyone who uses rechargeable AA batteries this is very cool gadget.
What makes this AA battery special is that it is recharged through USB. Not with a USB charger, the battery itself has a cap, sort of like a USB thumb drive, that comes off to reveal a standard USB plug. With the cap off, just plug it into most any USB port in your computer, laptop, or powered hub and it will recharge. The USBCELL can even act like a regular NiMH battery and charge in an approved NiMH charger. The USBCELL has circuitry built-in that regulates the charge, it stops charging automatically when full. There is even a gage in the battery to show the power status.
For anyone that is out and about with their computer and needs to power a voice recorder, digital camera, electronic flash, radio, etc. then you need to check out the USBCELL rechargeable AA battery.
